Five Lamps Roadworks

Please see below wording from a letter being delivered to residents regarding upcoming works to improve the junction.

Dear Resident

Derby City Council will be investing and completing major traffic signal, railing and surfacing works in Darley Ward starting this year, below is the details for our upcoming works:

Firstly the roads and junctions affected by these works are as follows:

5 Lamps, Duffield Road (A6), Kedleston Road (A6), Kedleston Street, Garden Street, West Avenue, North Street & Belper Road

Work begins on the 1st September 2025 for approximately 16 weeks.

The work will be completed by Whitehouse Construction, on behalf of Derby City Council. They are carrying out traffic signal removals and replacements, footway surfacing, railing works, street furniture replacements & carriageway improvements. Our contractor will erect advance notice boards regarding these works at various locations around the planned works.

Heritage Works:

There are also restoration works planned for the Duffield Road carriageway by our maintenance department and works to restore the historic railings along Duffield Road in conjunction with our specialist structures team. These works are currently being planned and will be coordinated with the signals works to provide as short a duration of disruption as can be achieved.

We appreciate this work is disruptive and journeys could be delayed for pedestrians, public transport and motor vehicles. Our main aim is to get the work completed as quickly and safely as possible. Pedestrian routes will be clearly marked on site with temporary crossings in effect throughout the works.

We will do our best to make sure all properties directly affected by the work can be accessed with minimum disruption. We will not be able to meet everyone’s personal requirements so you may experience some delays in gaining access at certain points of construction. Please be patient with our staff they and our traffic management company will assist you where possible and pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.

We have a full programme of works planned across the city to improve public transport and reduce journey times. The works will focus on new technologies, new signals and aim to reduce the councils carbon footprint. This location has been prioritised as essential for part of this programme. More detail can be found at: www.derby.gov.uk/news

If you have any questions regarding the scheme itself, please contact us at BSIP-ProjectsGroup@derby.gov.uk or visit www.derby.gov.uk/roadworks

We welcome feedback on any aspect of this scheme, so please let us know your thoughts when we have completed the work by emailing BSIP-ProjectsGroup@derby.gov.uk.

We thank you in advance for your patience and understanding and hope that you agree this improvement work is long overdue and is very much needed for businesses, residents and the travelling public.

Yours sincerely,

The BSIP’S Project Team
