💛 Your "Second Heart" is in your legs! 🦵

​Did you know you have a vital pump far away from your chest?

​Technically, it’s your calf muscles (the gastrocnemius and soleus).
Because blood has to fight gravity to get from your toes all the way back up to your heart, your body relies on these muscles to act as a skeletal muscle pump.

​How it works:

​Every time you walk, flex, or even wiggle your toes, those muscles contract.

​That contraction squeezes your veins like a tube of toothpaste.

​One-way valves ensure the blood moves upward, preventing it from pooling in your ankles.

​The Risk:
When we sit or stand still for too long, that "pump" stays off.

This can lead to swelling, heavy legs, or even blood clots (DVT).

​Your 30-second mission:
Don't let your second heart fall asleep on the job!

Here’s the “science” behind the idea:
• The Earth’s Charge: The surface of the Earth carries a subtle negative charge filled with free electrons.

• Trees as Bridges: Think of a tree as a natural grounding rod. With roots deep in moist soil and branches reaching into the air, it acts as a living connection point.

Not all body pain is the same.
And that matters for how you treat it.

Muscle pain and fascia pain can feel similar…
But your body is responding to two very different systems.

Muscle pain is usually:
• localised
• activity-based
• easier to stretch or massage
• short-term

Fascia pain is often:
• more diffuse or hard to pinpoint
• moves or radiates
• lingers longer
• less responsive to simple stretching

That’s because fascia isn’t just tissue.
It’s a sensory network that communicates with your nervous system, triggering pain through trapped emotions held within the body....the body keeps the score.

So when fascia is involved, the solution isn’t always “more stretching” or “pushing through.”

It’s often about supporting the system as a whole:

Did you know that fascia contains 250 million nerve endings, making it our largest sensory organ!

Everything In Your Body Is Linked

It’s easy to think of the body in parts
Jaw.
Neck.
Back.
Feet.
Separate areas. Separate problems.

But your fascia doesn’t work like that.
It’s one continuous network running through your entire body.

From your tongue…all the way to your toes.

Which means:
• tension in your jaw can affect your neck
• tight hips can influence your lower back
• your feet can change your posture and how your whole body moves

Nothing is isolated.

Everything is connected through tension, movement, and force.

As a massage therapist, working on one area of the body can create change somewhere completely different.

This is often why we experience 'referred' sensations or compensatory pain in areas far from the actual restriction.

Having the understanding that your body isn’t a collection of pieces, it’s one integrated system moving and adapting as a whole, helps me to integrate healing intuitively to restore balance to your mind, body and spirit also as a whole.
