Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust

Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust Mental health, children's and learning disability services. Page monitored 9am-5pm Mon-Fri. Members receive regular updates on our news and upcoming events.

As a Foundation Trust we are required to build a membership which is as representative of the community we serve as possible. Local people are invited to become a member of the Trust, to work with us to provide the most suitable services for the local population. They are also represented by a Council of Governors. We have a clear vision for the Trust, underpinned by objectives that serve as the basis for decision making and forward planning. Our vision and objectives guide us in how we balance the interests of patients, the local community and other stakeholders. The Trust has a Board of Directors, sometimes known as the Trust Board. This Board has a responsibility to make the best use of financial resources and deliver the services people need, to standards of safety and quality which are agreed nationally. Inclusion is important to the Trust and we are one of the only mental health Trusts in the country to be led by a Chair and Chief Executive from the BAME community. We are a friendly, values driven Trust and put our people first in the knowledge that an engaged and empowered workforce leads to good patient care. It’s a good time to join Team Derbyshire Healthcare – we are growing, with lots of exciting new developments and investment in local mental health services.

75% of our colleagues say the Trust is a good place to work or receive care. According to our staff survey we are one of the best trusts of our type, with active staff networks. We have a good mix of services; inpatient and community, children’s universal, perinatal and many more. We take the wellbeing of our colleagues seriously, champion staff engagement and have an ongoing programme of staff reward and recognition. Our main inpatient sites are Kingsway Hospital in Derby, the Radbourne Unit based on the Royal Derbyshire Hospital site in Derby, the Hartington Unit based on the Royal Derbyshire Hospital site in Chesterfield – with teams across the whole of the county. We provide Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) in Derby city. In Learning Disability services which we provide in Derby, we have recently formed an alliance with Derbyshire Community Health Services to lead across the county. We’re also actively involved in work across the system and region; to ensure that the NHS continues to improve the delivery of services across the patch to the communities we serve. Today is an incredibly important day - it is World Su***de Prevention Day 💛

It is estimated that there are currently more than 720,000 su***des per year worldwide, and we know that each su***de profoundly affects many more people. Su***de remains a critical global issue, affecting individuals and communities worldwide.

Changing the narrative on su***de aims to inspire individuals, communities, organisations and governments to engage in open and honest discussions about su***de and suicidal behaviour. By initiating these vital conversations, we can break down barriers, raise awareness, and create better cultures of understanding and support.

❗Opting out of emergency alerts❗

The UK Government will send a test emergency alert to mobile phones across the UK at around 3pm on Sunday 7 September. Emergency alerts contain life-saving information and should be kept switched on for your own safety.

You can opt out of emergency alerts. For example, victims of domestic abuse with a concealed phone may find it appropriate to turn off alerts.

How you opt out depends on your device, if you still get alerts after opting out, contact your device manufacturer for help.

For details on how to opt out of emergency alerts on different devices, visit the gov.uk website - https://www.gov.uk/alerts/opting-out

The UK Government will send a test emergency alert to mobile phones across the UK at around 3pm on Sunday 7 September.

The test, which is the second-ever national test of the system, is taking place as part of plans to strengthen the UK’s preparedness in line with the government’s Resilience Action Plan. The emergency alert system is used to warn if there’s a danger to life nearby, including extreme weather. It allows vital information and advice to be sent to people rapidly in an emergency.

During the test, mobile phones will vibrate and make a loud siren sound for roughly ten seconds, even if they are set to silent. A message will also appear on phone screens, making it clear the alert is only a test.

Free NHS eye tests for school starters 🤗👀

Calling all parents and carers. Do you have a child starting school this year? Remember to get their eyes tested before they start.

All children can get free NHS eye tests up to the age of 16, or if they are aged 16, 17 or 18 and in full-time education.

A child does not have to be able to read for their vision to be checked.

It's important to remember that not all children will show signs of having a vision problem. However, there are some signs that could indicate that a child may have a vision problem.

These include:

✅ They have headaches or eyestrain
✅ They complain of blurred vision
✅ They are falling behind with their schoolwork / studies
✅ They have attention / concentration issues
✅ They have issues with hand eye coordination
✅ They’re unusually clumsy
✅ They have siblings or family members who wear glasses or have eye problems
✅ They may appear upset or angry at a particular task, pushing it away

Not all children will show signs of vision problems, so without regular tests there is a risk an eye sight issue may not be spotted.
