Borderline Arts

Borderline Arts We facilitate workshops, exhibit art & produce theatre to raise awareness & break the stigma of BPD In 2015 Borderline Arts became a registered charity.

PLEASE NOTE THAT POSTS AND SHARES ARE NOT NECESSARILY ENDORSEMENTS; THE AIM IS TO RAISE AWARENESS AND GET PEOPLE TALKING. Borderline Arts is a mental health charity started by Sarah Eley, to raise awareness of and break down the stigma surrounding Borderline Personality Disorder (also known as BPD or EUPD). Sarah experienced stigma due to her mental health difficulties and diagnoses - as far too

many do - but discovered that by exhibiting art created by herself and others in similar positions, they could raise awareness and educate others about what they were going through, in this instance specifically Borderline Personality Disorder. Borderline Arts do a number of things to achieve this goal; we facilitate educational workshops for mental health professionals and students, curate and display artwork created by those with BPD in exhibitions, and run creative groups for adults with BPD, amongst other things. The theme throughout is that we help to educate those working in the mental health sector as well as the general public, and foster an accepting and positive attitude toward those with BPD. To continue this vital work, we rely on money that is raised through fundraisers. You can find out more about us at: www.borderlinearts.org

PLEASE NOTE: Our focus is raising awareness and reducing stigma. Borderline Arts isn’t able to directly support individuals with BPD. Please get in touch with Samaritans or a member of your care team if you are in a crisis and need to talk to someone, or dial 999 if it is an EMERGENCY.

It's hard to believe that it is over 2 weeks now since we lost the amazing Kev. We know many of you loved and respected Kev very much, as we did, so we wanted to share this information with you about Kev's funeral in case you would like to attend. We are sending you all lots of love (especially to Kev's family) at this very difficult time. We miss you so much Kev!!

We were absolutely devastated here at Borderline Arts to learn that the wonderful Kev Bagshaw passed away. He was our chairperson, but much more than that - he was our champion and our friend. Words can't express our loss, and we send all our love to his family and his many friends right now. He will be missed more than he could have ever imagined.

I know many of us will be struggling to come to terms with this news. Please, please reach out for support if you need it at this time. Whilst we can't offer one-to-one support at Borderline Arts, there are many places that can. Please head to https://www.borderlinearts.org/support-services for more information.

Research Opportunity:

We all know that when we are unwell with BPD, we can need a lot of extra support. That's not a bad thing - it's just a fact.

Sometimes this is hard for those caring for us - this is not our fault, it just means that they also need extra support in those times.

Charlotte is doing some research into understanding the challenges our carers face and how best they can be supported as they support us.

If you are interested in taking part in her research (or know someone who is) please contact Charlotte directly for further information.

Thanks!

We are really excited to be starting our Art Group sessions again in just two weeks time!!

Our Art Group is a non-judgmental, welcoming group for adults with a diagnosis of Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) / Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder (EUPD) to be creative. The groups focus on exploring and celebrating the positive aspects of participants' lives, rather than as therapy sessions to address difficulties. In the art group, we create art that expresses our qualities, interests, quirks, happy memories, and more. In the writing group, we engage in games, writing exercises, discussions, and other activities to produce writing that expresses our individuality and helps with emotion regulation.

No prior artistic skill or experience is necessary for attendance!

It is completely free and is open to anyone over 18 who has a diagnosis of Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) / Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder (EUPD).

We start back on Tuesday 13th May 2025 from 3pm-4.30pm. Sessions will then run every 4 weeks. Groups take place here at Borderline Arts - 119 Osmaston Road, Derby, DE1 2GD (opposite Ozzy Road Church).

Booking is ESSENTIAL to secure a place, so please click on this link to join: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/borderline-arts-art-group-tickets-1290396313109?aff=oddtdtcreator&fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTAAYnJpZBEwWUFWZ2t0UG1vdUF4dFFKMAEeZmzEagOeXUvFtlapXe6OKmsT0tgN-2sTa0uUygnc-CLPD8WbwCF4BoqkCkQ_aem_Bob2Rqr9zJNhhdlckevWGg&utm-campaign=social&utm-content=attendeeshare&utm-medium=discovery&utm-term=listing

RESEARCH OPPORTUNITY:
Please contact Scarlett directly if you are interested in taking part :)

Hello everyone!

My name is Scarlett, I am in my third year of university at Manchester Met and conducting an exploratory study into the lived experience of people with personality disorders, focusing on the treatment they have received from employers.

I am currently looking for around 10 participants to be part of this research project.

Any individuals who wish to share their lived experience must be:
· Over the age of 18
· Living in the UK
· Over a year of experience within the workplace
· Be self-diagnosed or clinically diagnosed with a personality disorder.

This study aims to investigate the difficulties which individuals with personality disorders encounter, with a particular focus on the treatment they have received from employers. I am aiming to expand the knowledge surrounding the stigma concerning individuals struggling with mental illness. In addition to this, I will be identifying the most effective ways to handle these disorders to ensure the workplace can be a comfortable environment, inclusive of everyone.

The research will involve an online interview with myself. If you would like to be a part of this, please contact me on SCARLETT.MONKS@stu.mmu.ac.uk with any questions or enquiries you may have.

I am looking forward to hearing from you!

A Special 'Thank You' to Randal Charitable Foundation!

We are absolutely delighted to have been granted the generous sum of £3000 by Randal Charitable Trust. This is to assist us with general running costs to enable us to concentrate on major projects such as our film project and re launching our creative workshops. This really is a godsend for us and we can’t thank them enough.

We would like to also thank Foundation Derbyshire for linking us here at Borderline Arts with this charity, who specifically wanted to help a small charity working to support those with mental health issues.

Do you have BPD/EUPD and fancy being interviewed for some research? See below for more information:

"My name is Emily Jones and I am a trainee clinical psychologist at Lancaster University in the United Kingdom. I am conducting research with individuals who have a diagnosis of borderline personality disorder (BPD) (sometimes referred to as emotionally unstable personality disorder (EUPD)) to understand their experiences with disclosing it to different people and in different settings, for example, to friends, family, partners, work, acquaintances etc.

Participation in the study will involve an interview with myself, where I would ask you questions about your experiences having a diagnosis of BPD and experiences with disclosure of it to others. Interviews will take place remotely via Microsoft Teams.

Further information about the study can be found through scanning the QR code or accessing the following link https://lancasteruni.eu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_9NrKi5Uc0KCjitw. If interested, through this you can fill in the expression of interest form and provide me with contact details. You can also contact me via email at e.jones39@lancaster.ac.uk.

Thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing from you!"
