This is absolutely appalling, irresponsible, and dangerous on every conceivable level. It sums up exactly why so many people suffer complications, adverse reactions, and unwanted outcomes. Legally, anyone can carry out non-surgical cosmetic treatments in the UK, even former page 3 and reality tv stars with no medical training or relevant qualifications. They are able to do this because there are a plethora of unscrupulous, unethical, and unaccountable practitioners who set themselves up as so-called ‘training academies’ without any recognised qualifications or medical expertise. They promote their courses to ‘laypeople’ promising them lucrative and glamourous careers. Our investigations into some of these ‘academies’ and the data we gather from complaints submitted to us by members of the public evidence why these practitioners are so dangerous. The information they are taught is often vastly inaccurate and inadequate which inevitably leads to an increased risk of complications that they are unable to recognise and manage.
Over the past 5 years, we have managed over 5,000 complaints from members of the public, over 86% of which were regarding treatments carried out by laypeople, beauticians, and hairdressers. In over 80% of these cases, the patients were ignored or blocked by the practitioner when something went wrong.
Katie Price has publicly documented her numerous cosmetic procedures over the years and will be fully aware of the very serious risks involved. Despite this, she feels it is appropriate to start providing these treatments herself and is promoting it to her vast number of followers. These treatments have become hugely trivialised by social media and reality tv which has caused thousands of people to suffer complications at the hands of the untrained and unaccountable.
