Today, we had the absolute delight of listening to Derek, the very first resident to join us at Furzefield Manor almost two years ago to the day, as he hosted his very own talk and took us on a heartfelt trip down memory lane reflecting on D-Day and wartime experiences.
Residents and team members listened proudly as Derek shared stories and reflections surrounding D-Day — the historic Allied landings on 6th June 1944, which marked a major turning point in World War II. The bravery, sacrifice, resilience, and unity shown by those involved served as a powerful reminder of the strength of the generation who lived through such significant moments in history.
It was not only educational and moving, but also incredibly special to hear these memories shared firsthand. Reminiscence sessions like this are so important within our home, particularly for those living with dementia, helping to spark memories, encourage conversation, and bring people together through shared experiences.
A huge thank you to Derek for such an engaging and meaningful afternoon — there was certainly plenty of reflection, pride, and admiration felt throughout the room 🇬🇧
