A lovely bit of time out at our local community coffee morning over at the White Church yesterday, then a long stroll back listening to the sea as the tide was in! Fresh air and tranquil moments!!

What a wonderful afternoon!! Delilah The Wellness Therapy Pony came to visit us!! The smiles she has brought to the residents has been truly heart warming!! Thank you to Ginny and Delilah for such a lovely visit! Another fabulous day, filled with smiles and the most unexpected visitor!!

Our Knitting Project was a huge success and they have now all been hand delivered to the very grateful Children’s Unit at Blackpool Victoria Hospital.
235 knitted Cannula sleeves made by residents, staff, friends and family of Starr Hills!
It has been a heartwarming project that has been wonderful to watch unfold and the end result an incredible achievement!
After a recent stay at the Children’s Ward, I (Emma) began talking to one of the play nurses who mentioned they were down to their last couple of knitted cannula sleeves for the children. This was instantly a project I was sure our residents would love to help with. In no time at all sleeves were being created in beautiful colours, conversations were flowing around the home about knitting and wool types, memories unlocked and stories being told, teaching and sharing ideas, staff were keen to get involved some including myself completely new to knitting and learning through the guidance of our residents. Friends at the White Church made and donated lots too.
It has been wonderful! Great for the mind, fine motor skills and social interaction. Giving the residents a focus and purpose and succeeding greatly! 235 sleeves!! Amazing!!
I am super proud of our Starr Hills family!

Wow!! What an amazing day we have had today! We have been so lucky to have a SKY team volunteer their time to help us in a project they generously offer a few times a year to different organisations and charities. They have been with us today absolutely transforming our gardens, tidying them up from summer, and preparing them for the change in season. What a wonderful group of people! The residents loved watching them work and interacting with them. Lots of laughs and great conversations!
Starr Hills can’t thank you all enough!

One of our wonderful volunteers brought in some very special keepsakes to show the residents this week. Yvonne visits us at Starr Hills on a Tuesday morning, offering companionship and a good old natter to anyone who wants to talk and interact. This week she brought in her very special doll Muriel who was gifted to her by a close friend who had her for many years. Muriel is around 100 years old. Yvonne also brought in some of her Dad’s clogs from when he was 4 years old!! He had them made to measure in 1918 in Manchester. These items inspired some beautiful conversations and unlocked some core memories for a lot of the residents that interacted with Yvonne. They especially loved holding Muriel!
Yvonne, as with all our volunteers here at Starr Hills is highly thought of by the residents and staff and we are so grateful for them dedicating their time to be with us!
