Here is The Look Ahead for July's programme of yoga classes to support your health and wellbeing:

THURSDAY 3 JULY 2025 @ 19:15-20:15
CLASS THEME: YIN GENTLE FULL BODY STRETCH
This beginners’ Yin yoga class is a gentle full body stretch to gradually reintroduce movement to our bodies for those of us who may not have exercised for a while or exercised less frequently than we might have liked to.

We will explore a carefully designed mixture of Yin yoga poses which are all carried out either lying down on our front or back or in a seated position, keeping the movements and positions accessible to all.

This will be a first step in increasing your flexibility and range of motion by stretching and lengthening your connective tissues. This class will also improve your joint health by nourishing and hydrating your joints, reducing stiffness and promoting overall mobility.

SATURDAY 5 JULY 2025 @ 10:00-11:30
CLASS THEME: RESTORATIVE BLISS
A deeply relaxing Restorative yoga class with very little physical exertion required as we will be using props such as bolsters and blankets to cradle your body and allow you to hold poses with ease.

Restorative yoga encourages you to slow down, take time to settle, and release your physical and mental tensions. It can help to reduce stress and anxiety, improve your sleep, boost your mood and energy levels.

I strongly recommend this class for anyone who is maybe trying their very first yoga class, anyone who has limited mobility, anyone with a curvy body shape, anyone recovering from injury, anyone looking for a way to help manage chronic pain or anyone who feels a bit run down and needs to recharge!

THURSDAY 10 JULY 2025 @ 19:15-20:15
CLASS THEME: SWEET & GENTLE ‘NO PROPS’ HATHA
A gentle Hatha yoga class for beginners with a deliciously slow-paced class that will ease out any tension from your mind and body.

We will be keeping it simple and not using any props for this particular class which consists of a combination of seated and lying down postures or asanas.

Lose yourself in the dreamy pace of this class, leaving behind the stresses and strains of a busy day. We will finish the class with a long and peaceful Shavasana relaxation so that you leave feeling refreshed and ready to face the next day with energy and positivity.

SATURDAY 12 JULY 2025 @ 10:00-11:30
CLASS THEME: ENERGISING BACK BENDS
This beginners’ Hatha yoga class will focus on back bends, such as Sphinx Pose, that are considered energising because they open up your chest and heart space, stimulating your nervous system and increasing your lung capacity.

This class may help you if you suffer with lower back stiffness or back pain, or if you spend a long time sitting in front of a computer or driving.

You will leave this class with boosted energy levels and a profound sense of wellbeing.

THURSDAY 17 JULY 2025 @ 19:15-20:15

SATURDAY 19 JULY 2025 @ 10:00-11:30
CLASS THEME: CALMING FORWARD BENDS
This beginners’ Hatha yoga class will focus on forward bends such as Child's Pose that induce calming because they mimic the foetal position, which naturally trigger a 'rest and digest' response in your body, deepen your breath, and stimulate your parasympathetic nervous system, promoting relaxation and a sense of clam.

This class could help you to feel more in control again, if your life has been getting too busy and hectic lately!

THURSDAY 24 JULY 2025 @ 19:15-20:15
CLASS THEME: HATHA BASICS
This beginners’ Hatha yoga class is devoted to looking at some of the foundation poses that will form the building blocks of your yoga practice.

We will be learning how to get into and out of each pose safely and with control, and using any yoga props that best support you.

Following a gentle warm-up and breathing exercises, this class will include an in-depth look into several foundational poses.

I will provide you with different levels of difficulty for each pose so that they are achievable for everyone.

We will end our class with a blissful relaxation.

SATURDAY 26 JULY 2025 @ 10:00-11:30
CLASS THEME: YIN YOGA FOR STRESS RELIEF
This beginner's Yin yoga class provides you with stress relief by encouraging deep relaxation and releasing your physical and emotional tension through long-held, passive postures.

The slow, mindful movements, that are all practiced at ground-level either seated or lying down, and the extended holds in each pose activate your parasympathetic nervous system, promoting a state of calm and reducing the 'fight or flight' response often associated with stress.

If you are looking for a class to help you move more freely and to help you feel more peaceful - then this class was designed with you in mind!

THURSDAY 31 JULY 2025 @ 19:15-20:15
CLASS THEME: ENERGISING BACKBENDS
This beginner's Hatha yoga class will focus on back bends, such as Sphinx Pose, that are considered energising because they open up your chest and heart space, stimulating your nervous system and increasing your lung capacity.

This class may help you if you suffer with lower back stiffness or back pain, or if you spend a long time sitting in front of a computer or driving.

You will leave this class with boosted energy levels and a profound sense of wellbeing.

How to make Heart-Healthy Guacamole!
Preparation Time: 10 mins
Difficulty Level: Easy
Serves: 8 people

INGREDIENTS
- 1 large ripe tomato
- 3 avocados, very ripe but not bruised
- juice of 1 large lime
- Handful of coriander, leaves and stalks chopped, plus a few leaves, roughly chopped, to serve
- 1 small red onion, finely chopped
- 1 chilli, red or green, dressed and finely chopped
- Tortilla chips, to serve

METHOD

- Step 1: Use a large knife to pulverise 1 large ripe tomato to a pulp on a board, then tip into a bowl.

- Step2: Halve and stone the 3 avocados (saving a stone) and use a spoon to scoop out the flesh into the bowl with the tomato.

- Step 3: Tip the juice of 1 large lime, a handful of roughly chopped coriander, 1 finely chopped small red onion and 1 de-seeded and finely chopped red or green chilli into the bowl, then season with salt and pepper.

- Step 4: Use a whisk to roughly mash everything together. If not serving straight away, sit a stone (the one you saved earlier) in the guacamole as this helps to stop it going brown, cover with cling film and chill until needed.

Cooking with nutrient-rich foods such as avocados, is one of several east ways to improve your heart health.

Try this homemade face mask for dry skin. If you have dry skin, you know that the majority of dry skin remedies include heavy oils that can also be hella-pore clogging if you’re acne-prone. This avocado and honey face mask has only two ingredients and is super easy to make at home.

INGREDIENTS:
- half an avocado, mashed
- 1 tablespoon honey

Avocados are full of fatty acids, which help soothe and moisturise your dry skin barrier, while honey is a natural hydrate and astringent (it’s been used to treat acne and inflammatory skin conditions without drying out or irritating your skin). Mix and mash the two together, slather all over your face, then wash off after 10 minutes (or 15 minutes! or 20 minutes!).

What a lovely way to relax!

Fruity Facts: Avocados are fruits and are technically considered to be a single-seeded berry. What makes the avocado so versatile is it’s sweet yet savoury flesh.

Avocados are high in fat, with 60% of this being monounsaturated fats, which research suggests helps to protect against heart disease and lower blood pressure. They are also an excellent source of potassium, folate and fibre, all of which benefit the heart and cardiovascular system.

Fun Fridays: How did Vikings clean their teeth? Many Vikings used picks to clean the gaps between their teeth, and some historians believe they may also have used fibrous hazel twigs and similar tools as a kind of toothbrush.

The Viking skeletons discovered over the decades have usually had relatively strong teeth too.

Pictured is a genuine Viking grooming kit which includes a toothpick and could be clipped to your belt.

Fun Fridays: Why were Vikings obsessed with personal hygiene? Vikings valued their appearance and cleanliness. They spent time, effort and wealth on it, and they were about as clean as they practically could be during that time.

Vikings equated daily combing, grooming and cleanliness with self-respect and personal presentation with honour and self-worth.

Fun Fridays: What did Vikings use as medicine? The people in the Norse era were practising both magical and medical arts to deal with health issues.

Different remedies utilised local herbs to cure a wound, fix a broken bone, in anointing and bandaging. In some cases, Vikings would trade herbs to different regions to overcome a certain disease.

VIKING MEDICINAL HERBS

The herbs Vikings used for medicine included mugwort, waybroad (which modern people call plantain), stime (watercress), atterlothe, maythen (camomile), wergulu (nettle), crab-apple, chervil and fennel.

MOST FAMOUS VIKING PHYSICIAN

The best-known Viking physician was the Icelander, Hfran Sveinbjarnarson, (c1166-1213), who was highly regarded for his skills.

His medical treatments included lancing, cleaning wounds, anointing, bandaging, setting broken bones, preparing herbal remedies using local herbs, and midwifery.

Fun Fridays: What was the life expectancy for Vikings? The average life expectancy during the Viking age was 40-45. Given this fact, it was important that children could help and carry out the work of adults as soon as possible.

In Iceland, males were legally adults at the age of 16. Girls married at a very young age and were regarded as adults once they were married.
