🧠 Did you know your pelvic floor can be too tight, not just weak?
Most people hear “just squeeze” when pelvic floor problems arise, but sometimes those muscles are already working overtime. A tight pelvic floor isn’t strong, it’s exhausted.
Check if you recognise any of these signs, you might be surprised how common they are!
1️⃣ Pain during s*x? Around 1 in 4 women in the UK experience pelvic pain linked to tight pelvic floor muscles (Reissing et al., 2005).
2️⃣ Trouble fully emptying your bladder or bowel? Overactive pelvic muscles can make it feel like you’re never quite done (Wallner et al., 2009).
3️⃣ Feeling pelvic pain or heaviness? More than 80% of people with chronic pelvic pain have pelvic floor muscle tenderness (Fitzgerald et al., 2009).
4️⃣ Struggling with constipation or needing to ‘splint’ to go? Up to half of those with long-term constipation have pelvic floor muscles that don’t relax properly (Bharucha et al., 2014).
5️⃣ Constantly clenching without knowing it? Tension in your belly, bum, or jaw could mean your nervous system is stuck in ‘fight or flight’.
✨ If any of this sounds familiar, you’re definitely not alone and there’s help.
