Starting the day with a little trivia - we got our brains in action on Friday with a little this or that, a simple game on the big screen for everyone to see where we chose between 2 answers as to which we think is right! Some of the questions we found very easy, others not as much and the whole topic - UK general knowledge sparked great conversations, we now know who out of us is a marmite lover or hater (very important!), we discussed seaside holidays and favourite places we’ve visited and all in all had a lovely time!

Move over chasers as we’re very proud to say that we got full points - 20/20, so we rewarded ourselves with the tea trolley and extra biscuits whilst feeling very smug 😂

What a wonderful morning for our community coffee and cake with Elvis today! Of course it wasn’t all Elvis we had some fantastic singalong songs too!

A huge thank you to everyone who came along and also to The Barry Tone Experience for a wonderful morning of music and dancing!

Last week we were very lucky to have some of the children from Catton Grove Primary School come to see us as part of our ongoing bond with Friend in Deed, since it was world book day the children kindly showed off their reading skills to our residents as they spent time making friends and chatting.
We really enjoyed watching conversations flow and all were in agreement that it was so lovely to spend time with different generations.
After all the reading we decided to burn off some energy with a friendly game of balloon volleyball before the children headed back off to school for lunch.

After they had left we all agreed what well behaved and polite children they all were and what a nice time we had all had!

Thanks very much Catton Grove - we can’t wait for your next visit!

🇬🇧Reminiscence Sessions 🇬🇧

Last week we were very fortunate to have a reminiscence box sent to us on loan from The Royal Mint and we absolutely loved it!

We shared memories of days gone by and decimalisation - taught our activity coordinators how many pennies to a shilling and all the nicknames we had for coins back then, remembered things like the £1 note and learnt that the Royal Mint don’t only make the coins for the UK as we looked at coins from other countries too.

It was a fascinating and wonderful trip down memory lane sharing tales of things we’d buy and for how much compared to today’s prices.

We are extremely grateful to the Royal Mint for creating this thoughtful and memory provoking box and making it so available to care homes for free!

All in all another lovely day at St Mary’s ♥️

Blown away!

Our Violet made it to the Norwich Evening News! Today when we showed Violet herself with a full page spread in the newspaper Violet was a little choked up and said how special she felt!

She’d like to thank everyone who has wished her a happy birthday and taken the time to speak with her when they have visited. This is one for her keepsake drawer. ♥️

🎉 103 Years Young 🎉

Please join us in wishing a very happy birthday to our beautiful Violet as today she turned 103!

Violet enjoyed a visit from her family and a little party with her friends at St Mary’s - not forgetting CAKE 🎂 (she may have taken a cheeky slice to bed with her this evening 😂 ) !!!!

Whenever you ask Violet what her secret is she tells you she wishes she knew - but this wonderful lady certainly knows how to live, she actively participates in games, baking, visits with the children from Friend in Deed, bus trips, flower arranging, knitting, painting and many more of the activities on offer each week and she’s a great person to have a chin wag with over a cuppa and a biscuit 😍

It’s certainly been 103 years well spent as she tells you of her time being in the land army, working in a factory with Des O’Connor (a very cheeky chappy who entertained them all at work with a twinkle in his eye), her move to Norfolk, settling in Caister on sea and becoming a firm part of their community supporting the Caister Lifeboat and evenings spent in the Never Turn Back public house. But raising her family is Violets favourite achievement in life ♥️

Happy Birthday Violet - you’re a legend and a pleasure to spend time with. 😘
