We all know that falls can have catastophic consequences. Changing the type of shoes one wears can make a fall much less likely. Well established research has shown that wearing barefoot shoes, with minimal sole and no heel, means a better connection with the ground, much better balance and the ability to adjust when off balance. Resulting in far less falls. A study in a residential care home where the residents changed to barefoot shoes resulted in 80% less falls as foot muscles strengthened and proprioception, your body's ability to sense its own position and movements, improved. Some of the simplest things can have the greatest impact on one's health and wellbeing.
