April is Global Child Nutrition Month and is a reminder of the importance of establishing healthy eating habits early in life. A balanced and varied diet providing essential nutrients can help support children's growth, development and learning. Adequate protein and eating the rainbow can help children to meet their nutritional needs. Involving children in meal planning and preparation, and, positive and relaxed mealtimes can help create positive relationships with food laying the foundations for wellbeing later in life.

April is stress awareness month 🌿.

When life gets busy, stress can quickly build up. This month, let's check in with ourselves and explore simple ways to support our wellbeing.

There's no one size fits all approach to managing stress but small daily habits can make a difference to how we experience it. Choosing balanced, nourishing foods, taking a few moments to stretch, breathe and rest, spending time outdoors, and staying hydrated can all support overall wellbeing. Creating a culture that encourages open conversation is equally important - it's ok to reach out for support.

Many people think that healthy eating means restriction - less carbs, less sugar, less, less, less .....

But in reality, nutrition doesn't have to be complicated.

Good nutrition involves making changes that are sustainable - building consistent, healthy habits based on an understanding of what your body actually needs. It's not about being perfect - it's about being consistent.

Small changes maintained over time, stack up.

I went to a really insightful talk yesterday by Hester Grainger about late ADHD diagnosis in women and it gave me a lot to think about. What stood out was the many different ways ADHD can manifest, and, how many women go undiagnosed for years.
It also got me thinking about the different ways we can support people. From my perspective, nutrition and yoga can play meaningful roles alongside other support.
The way Hester Grainger shared her own experience so openly was refreshing. Thank you!

Today we celebrate mothers and mother figures, and honour the many ways people nurture, support, and care for others - families, friends, communities, pets, and ourselves. Today is a reminder that those who give so much to others also need nourishment, rest, and care.

Choose foods that replenish - small changes can make a big impact to how we feel. Celebration matters too, whether that involves sharing a meal with loved ones, baking something special, or enjoying a slice of cake with a cup of tea!

Take a moment to pause, breathe, and refill your cup.

To all who nurture others in big and small ways - we celebrate you 💛.

Today is world sleep day. In busy, modern life sleep is one of the first things we compromise. So, today, let's pause and think about how we can slow down and encourage a good night's sleep.

With yoga, slow stretches, and calming breath work are ways that many people choose to wind down. Nutritionally, some people choose to pay attention to consistent meal times, staying hydrated during the day, and avoiding caffeine in the evening to help them wind down.

Everyone's routine will look a little different. World sleep day is a good prompt to notice what helps create a calmer end to the day.

A slightly belated reflection for International Women's Day. Supporting women's health and wellbeing is always important. Balanced nutrition, mindful movement and yoga, can help maintain energy, resilience, and long term health. When women are supported in looking after their wellbeing the overall benefits can ripple out to those around them. Here's to making our health and wellbeing a priority 365 days of the year!

World book day yesterday had me thinking about some of my favourite books in nutrition that have helped shape how I think about food, health and wellbeing. Narrowing my choices down to three, I choose, Ultra processed people by Chris van Tulleken, The Drs Kitchen by Dr Rupy Aujila, and, The 8 week blood sugar diet by Dr Michael Mosley. Dr Mosley's work is particularly special as it helped feed my interest in nutrition and helped shaped how we think about the way that food influences our health. His work brought wider attention to how changes in diet and lifestyle can, for some people, put type 2 diabetes into remission.

As we head into the weekend, remember that nourishment isn't just about what's on the plate. Maybe this weekend could be a chance to batch cook and prepare meals for the coming week. Or perhaps it's time to slow down, eat mindfully, and reconnect with the body's hunger and fullness signals. If you're using this weekend to reset, remember to do it gently and kindly.

What's one thing you're going to do to nourish yourself this weekend?

I listened to a fascinating talk at the Norwich Science Festival yesterday called, "Hidden Hunger", by The Quadram Institute. It discussed how it's possible that overnutrition and nutrient deficiency can co-exist, and that sometimes people don't realise they might be depleted in key vitamins and minerals. Nutritional therapy can help to identify potential nutrient gaps and support health and wellbeing. It was lovely to receive a name check from the Quadram Institute - thank you!
