Dear customers,

We would like to apologise if you find us closed intermittently for a few days upcoming.

Very sadly Ann’s husband, Bob, passed away in the early hours of Friday morning.

He passed peacefully having been constantly surrounded by Ann and his family and friends at Priscilla Bacon Lodge following a fight with cancer.

Bob and Ann have had a wonderful and happy 25 years together that saw Bob always being a steadfast love and support for Ann as well as his family and friends whom he loved quietly but deeply.

Many in the area may know Bob simply as the characterful man who often took deliveries for Blofield Florists but aside from his, sometimes interesting routes around the villages, Bob had lived an incredibly full life in his career in the RAF prior to retirement. Serving for approximately 40 years and rising to the rank of Squadron Leader, Bob was also greatly honoured to be awarded an MBE by the queen.

His loss will be felt greatly by everyone that was fortunate to have been touched by his mischievous, occasionally eccentric but always sincerely loving character.

He leaves behind wife Ann, children Mark, Louise, Liz and Lucie and Katie, all with their respective families and Bob’s adored grandchildren, not to mention his closest friends who will also feel his loss greatly.

You have been loved by so many Bob. You will be greatly missed xx

A wonderful glimpse into our past 🤍

This cutting from April 1942 shows Gedge & Sons serving the Blofield, Brundall and surrounding district — not only as undertakers, but also as builders and skilled tradesmen.

At the time, services ranged from plumbing and house renovations to fitting bathrooms and maintaining boilers — alongside “funerals reverently carried out,” a phrase that still resonates deeply with us today.

While much has changed over the years, the commitment to serving local families with care, respect, and dignity has remained at the heart of everything we do.

From a simple listing with a telephone number of “Brundall 46” to the range of funeral services we provide today, we are proud of our roots and the trust placed in us across generations.

This was sent to us by a recent client of ours, who had found it, whilst sorting through mums things.

Whilst Easter can be a time of togetherness, it may also be a difficult period for those who are grieving or remembering someone special.

Today we said goodbye to someone who left this world far too soon, at far too young an age.

A life that deserved more time…… more peace, …. and far more justice…. than this world was sadly ever going to be able to offer him.

Days like today are never easy. They can feel heavy, and at times, incomprehensible.

Today … We were asked more than once, “I don’t know how you do your job?”

Our answer is always the same:
“It is a privilege!”

A privilege to be trusted with someone’s final journey. To know that we have carried out the last act of care exactly as you wished.
And even on the hardest of days, we are grateful that you leave with a service you can remember with pride, love, and happy reflection.

Thank you to Andrew Tapsell for delivering a service that brought comfort, peace, and hope to all who attended.

Mother’s Day can bring many emotions. For some it’s a day of celebration, and for others it’s a day of remembering a much-loved mum who is deeply missed. 💐

If today feels difficult, please be gentle with yourself. There is no right or wrong way to spend the day — you might choose to take a quiet walk, spend time doing something you enjoy, or remember your mum in a small, meaningful way.

Some people find comfort in:
🕯️ Lighting a candle
📷 Looking through photos
🍲 Cooking their favourite meal
🎵 Listening to music they loved
💗 Sharing memories with family and friends

Grief doesn’t just hurt your heart.
It exhausts your brain.

When you’re grieving, your nervous system is under constant strain. Concentration drops. Memory gets fuzzy. Decision-making feels heavy—even paralyzing. Things that once felt simple can suddenly feel impossible.

What should I eat?
Should I answer that text?
Do I go, or stay home?

This isn’t weakness.
It’s grief doing what grief does.

If you’re grieving, it’s okay to slow down. To defer decisions. To ask someone else to choose. To say, “I can’t decide right now.”

And if you’re supporting someone who’s grieving, this is one of the most practical ways to help:
Offer fewer choices.
Make gentle suggestions.
Handle the decisions they don’t have the capacity for.

Grief changes how the brain works.
Compassion, especially for yourself, matters here.

St Faiths Crematorium will be holding a Mother’s Day Remembrance Service lead by the wonderful Becs Buss Funeral Celebrant, for anyone who would like a quiet moment to remember their mum or a special maternal figure.

Well done Peterson Funeral Services for this video. We’ve heard similar in our area.

Whilst they’re with us at Gedge and sons you’re welcome to visit as much and and as many times as you wish. There will NEVER be a charge for this under our watch. 🕊️
