Do you suffer from sensory neuropathy due to diabetes?
Some symptoms are: prickling and tingling (pins and needles), numbness and reduced ability to feel changes in temperature, particularly in the feet, burning/sharp pains usually in the feet and legs.
Sharp, shooting pains in the feet seems to be particularly distressing.
Do you suffer from sharp, shooting pains in the feet?
If so, how do you deal with it?

How do you choose your shoes?
As a woman, I love shoes and its amazing how a pair of high heels can make you feel sexy and confident! But for how long?
And I'm sure the same can be said about men, but without the high heels of course!
Do you choose your shoes based on current fashion and appearance or do you compromise for the sake of comfort?

Yesterday I walked 8034 steps. And no problems with my feet. I am wearing a pair of Karrimor Hot Route walking/hiking boots which have plenty of room for my toes and they lace up firmly over the insteps so they don't slip off my heels.
This time, as I entered the forest, I met a lovely lady called Sadie. After checking me out, she settled down on my one foot and rested up against my legs while I chatted to her family. It took quite a tug on her lead to get her moving again once the time came to go our separate ways! She looked like the picture below but with much more black on her chest.

Yesterday I walked 9609 Miles.

It was a cool, overcast day (So what's new in the UK!) and the season is changing to Autumn which means the trees are changing to some really beautiful colours.

Here in Berkshire, I am fortunate that I only have to walk a short way on a busy road until I get to a footpath and I am immediately in the great outdoors.

I walk alongside some open fields, bordered with hedges and trees. Just as I set foot on the footpath, I stop to change the music on my phone when a Robin lands in front of me. I think she thought I had food in my hand and I was amazed at how close she came to investigate.

Further along I met a lovely chap called Bob. He is a Spinone Italiano; a slightly older and shaggier version of the picture below. There was another dog running through the field and Bob stood stock still (totally ignoring both his owners and my calls to come and say hullo to me) and watched until the other dog left, only then did he deign to come and greet me.

I am eternally grateful that I have problem-free feet....well, almost problem-free. They do tend to get very dry and rough with a crack on the ball of each foot just beneath the big toe. But a regular shave, file and moisturiser takes care of that!
To show my gratitude and appreciation for and of my feet, I decided that I needed to get walking (OK, yes I admit, my ever increasing waistline had something to do with this decision as well...it's not fair that my feet should have to carry all those extra pounds/kilos which seem to just keep piling on as I get older!). For the past couple of years I have spent most of my time caring for a 93yr old gentleman in Berkshire whose walking pace has been reduced to snail pace and for my 74yr old husband in Norfolk who has Parkinson's and whose walking pace has also slowed down to what I would call a stroll.
I found that I was getting very headachy, tired, and suffering various aches and pains, especially in winter when the heating is always on. Then I noticed that on the few occasions when I walked to the shop and back (a 15min walk each way) that I felt somewhat refreshed. But what to do to cajole me into walking more regularly?
Then I saw a special offer in a magazine I had bought, for a Garmin Vivofit. All I wanted was something that could tell the time, count my steps, record the distance and count the calories used (the Vivofit is the basic of Garmins range but it suits me fine...I really don't want to be reading my emails when I'm out on a walk!) but I can also connect it to a heart rate monitor, and it can record my sleep patterns which I find very interesting.
AND, it has a thin, solid red line which creeps up to tell you that you have been sitting around for an hour, followed by shorter red dashes to indicate every 15 min thereafter of sitting around. Someone said that that would drive them mad but it's not "in your face" and I have found that when I glance at it to see the time, it serves as a reminder to get moving (OK, it "guilts" me into moving!). After moving around, the red line goes away, until you sit around again!
AND, I have now found out that I can connect to other people and we can actually inspire one another and/or compete with one another. So here I am, in the UK connected to a friend in South Africa. Isn't technology amazing!
And I treat my feet by buying the best and most comfortable walking shoes/boots that I can afford.
