This research is not new information to acupuncturists. Chinese Medicine has known this for thousands of years and it influences the way we treat conditions such as arthritis. Certain joint problems are actually labelled “Wind Bi” and “Damp Bi” in Chinese Medicine. It’s good to see there is now some research behind this in the Western World 👏👏

My only two go-to books about pregnancy, childbirth and the fourth trimester. Even if things don’t go to plan, there is so much that can be taken from Ina May’s book to prepare you for birth. I’m looking forward to getting into the next trimester (hopefully soon 🤞) and taking each of the 40 days slowly. book talks about how the fourth trimester is experienced in other cultures. Lots of the practices are the same in Chinese Medicine such as a mother warming, ingesting the placenta, and lots of warming broths to nourish you after birth. I can highly recommend both of these books for anyone who is expecting.

This week was my last week in the clinic until I return in the new year after my maternity leave.
The next month or so for me is all about nesting, resting and spending some quality time with my little one before her sibling arrives! I’ll also be getting lots of acupuncture treatments myself!
I’ll still be posting on here and will be back again treating in the clinic in the new year!

💚 Another beautiful day soaking up possibly the last of late summer. Still a few more weeks left in this period of the Earth element. It’s a time to leave the carefree days of summer and start a path of moderation and routine. Enjoy slowing down.
Do you know if your Earth element is healthy? Feeling tired all the time? A sluggish digestive system? Breakouts? Feeling down? It’s possible your Stomach and Spleen which represent the Earth element need a boost. Slow down, eat well, eat at regular times, exercise gently, calm your mind. 💚

💚Late Summer ~ The Earth Element 💚

In traditional Chinese Medicine, late summer starts around the third week of August and lasts through the Harvest period. The Earth element represents the Stomach and Spleen, it’s a time for looking after our digestive systems, nourishing ourselves and building up our stores for Autumn. Everything starts to slow down, although with the most recent heatwave it doesn’t really feel like it.
We savoured the last of the summer weather by heading to the beach and spending some quality family time together. At 31 weeks pregnant I’m feeling an extra need to slow down and my clinic hours will be coming to an end soon ready for maternity leave. 💚 contact me if you require an appointment in September.

Brilliant yoga class with tonight which I nearly didn’t go to as was feeling a bit rubbish and super tired. 💤
But feeling so much better now. We even massaged an acupuncture point Kidney 1 - “Bubbling Spring” on the bottom of our feet for grounding and calmness in class. Chinese Medicine recommends gentle exercise such as yoga as it’s great for moving the Qi of the Liver. Stuck Liver Qi can make us feel tense, give us headaches, make us irritable, and cause pain in areas of our body. Deep, calm Yogi breaths help nourish our Zong Qi, an essential Qi for our lungs to help keep us healthy and calm. 🧘‍♀️
