Back home, nice week away in malta relaxing and switching off. Back in Tuesday.....
Relaxing day walkup the hill to our local town of Mellieha. Visited the local church and found the WWII shelters. These were hand dug by pick axe, amazing what they had to do to survive the onslaught of bombing raids. The tunnels went on for 100's of feet. Nice traditional Maltese lunch and a cool beer.
Hop on hop off bus circuit of the north part of Malta. Not the best! Traffic and lots of construction work going on. Took a long time from one stop to another, not mentioned when booking. You actually only had time for 3x 1 hour stops. The capital Valletta (crazy busy). Then Madina for 2 hours. The original capital from the 12th century, the medieval citadel and where the Knights Templer an order of the Roman Catholic Church, and all of its members fled when persecuted by the French after the crusades, much better!
Trip over to Gozo by the ferry, coach trip to Qbajjar bay, then trackless train ride to the salt flats dating back to the Roman times. Back on the coach to visit the Ggantija megalithic trmpled dating back more than 5550 years before Egypt. Next stop was Dwejra Bay access from the sea by a very small crack in the rock face. A very tight squeeze by boat! Victoria, the capital of gozo the last stop, walks to the medieval citadel and the basilica.
