Last class of this term tonight. I am taking a rare extended break from teaching this summer. No workshops, no Zoom and no retreats. Lots of people have asked me why? The answer is simply that I want time for myself.

Teaching is wonderful but it takes its toll and now I feel I need space to read, to garden, to make things ( more on that later) and also to study. I have enrolled in an advanced anatomy course about feet, specifically how they impact knees and hips 😃 my favourite subject.

So after today you will find being engrossed in these books, many of which were gifts I have not made time to read. Either that or pruning the roses, digging up the weeds which will surely grow after all this lovely rain and oh looking at feet!!

Hussle of self employment is real but in that process we still need to nurture ourselves, otherwise what gifts of self-knowledge can we give to our clients?

The clients I have booked in my diary are for social things, like walks, coffee dates, a spa day and a meeting of all the dogs I have seen appearing on weekly Zoom sessions but now will finally get to meet in person. Sounds like a perfect summer to me, oh and I will be 60!! So celebrations and fun with my family.

See you on the other side 😉

20 years ago today I began a class at The Patteson Rooms in Cringleford. Three members of that first class still attend today 😊. Many also regularly attend other classes each week plus workshops/ retreat days. Their dedication to their yoga practice means they have clocked up over 1,000 hours each, which is incredible.

Many thanks to all my clients for their friendship and dedication to this ancient practice. Thank you for the cards, gifts and flowers today 💞.

Twenty years of full time teaching does not feel much like work as I love what I do. Here's to the next 20! As I reach my 60th birthday this year here's hoping I keep going as long as my oldest client( 95 years young).

Looking forward to seeing some regular and new faces next week 🙂 safe, accessible practice for everyone x

Do you ever feel that your life sometimes spirals so quickly you don't know which way is up? I have felt that recently. Not maybe as dramatically but definitely like I am on a boat which I am not the captain of. I have no control of the navigation and my shipmates are all battling their own problems. We are all trying to navigate choppy waters but none of us has a compass or a clear course which appears obvious for us to take.

At times like this my yoga practice is my lifeboat. It gives me a way to connect back to just me. Find my breath, literally find my feet and allow the choppy waters of life to swirl around me, leaving me at that still point of calm

Today that wasn't enough so I did the only other thing that soothes me like nothing else can. I got my hands into the soil and gardened.I potted up bedding plants, top dressed my vines and felt the tension dissipate slowly and gently. Nature healing with her tender touch as I noticed new growth, ants busy with their nest and then high in the sky the silhouette of returning swifts. The first ones I have seen this year. Their black curved shape heralds warmth, hope and the successful long journeys end

So like those birds our path might not be straight or easy but we will get there ( wherever "there"is) eventually. In the meantime we will keep moving forward, breathing, connecting and getting our hands dirty!

It's been a while!! So much life has been lived since my last proper post. Most of it is good, some of it super challenging, all of it providing lessons and decisions. When we are faced with major upheaval it's up to us how we respond. We can implode ( I certainly did that for a bit), we can choose to accept what you can't change and then we can move forward with the things you can directly act on.

This week has begun with sad news. One of my older clients who I have been teaching for a few years died suddenly over the weekend. It was unexpected and was shocking for everyone. I only saw them in class last Wednesday and we were all laughing and enjoying each other's company. Suddenly this morning I received an email saying that they had passed away. From vibrant smiling humour to gone in a few days.

It caught me off guard. A stark reminder that life whether easy or challenging is so fleeting. One moment we are enjoying ourselves and the next we are gone. We have no time to waste as we never truly know when we will leave this world. We need to cherish our relationships whether they are professional or personal. Ensure people know how much you value them. As part of the email I was told how valued and enjoyed my yoga sessions had been by their relative. That simple message at such a challenging time for their family was such a gift.

So thank you dear Kath for all the laughter and your dedication to your yoga practice. It has been a privilege to know you and we will all miss your dry humour and beaming smile. Rest well.

Apologies everyone but our workshop on Friday has been cancelled. So many people can no longer make this session it is no longer viable. Those of you who have already paid can either have a refund or take that fee off your next block payment.
Sorry everyone 😕 for the cancellation but the additional sessions have to be viable financially for me to run them in the future.

Just a quick reminder that there is no lunchtime class today as I am attending the funeral service of our meditation teacher Danashura Dharmachari Maurice Wright at Padmaloka. His gentle teaching and wisdom along with his infectious humour will be greatly missed ❤️
