Professional probate research with a personal touch

Ten years ago today, I took a leap and started my own probate genealogy business - Pro-Gen Research Limited.

At the beginning, I had a page and a handful of email contacts. Slowly, enquiries started to come in, the client list grew, a website was developed, and I was able to leave my 9–5 to focus fully on building the business.

Along the way there have been some personal challenges but my business adjusts keep me motivated.

Starting Pro-Gen Research is easily the best decision of my professional life. It’s given me the freedom to be independent, decisive and imaginative. I’ve developed so many skills but, most importantly, it’s the relationships I’ve built along the way - with clients, contacts, peers and beneficiaries - that have meant the most.

So, to everyone I’ve worked with, met at events, or connected with on LinkedIn (even if we haven’t met in person yet), thank you. You’ve made the last ten years truly special, and I’m excited to continue this journey with as many of you as possible.

Today I spent a fascinating few hours exploring Highgate Cemetery, soaking up the history, hearing stories of the famous (and infamous), and learning about the ongoing restoration work. Safe to say it’s exactly my kind of outing. Our tour guide, Terry, was so much fun and added lots of amusing tales that kept the tour really interesting and totally unscripted.

Afterwards, a small group of us rewarded our uphill efforts with a well-earned late lunch at a pub with good food, great company, and plenty more lively conversation.

Feeling very grateful for the invite from Claire Sharp and Claire McGill. Honestly, what could be more perfect for a genealogist? 🌿

What a lovely way to start the day celebrating at the beautiful Royal Norwich.

It was great to join a brunch event co-hosted with and and hear from Nutritional Therapist, who shared some really interesting insights into nutrition across a woman’s life cycle. A great reminder of how important it is to look after our health and wellbeing at every stage of life and wonderful to learn that our brains get an upgrade in menopause!

It was also a pleasure to spend time with so many inspiring women and have some great conversations.

A very enjoyable and uplifting morning and wonderful to get out of the office into the gorgeous spring sunshine. Thank you to everyone involved in organising it.

We were delighted to support the inaugural Private Client Breakfast Network this morning at .keswickhall

It was a pleasure to welcome a group of private client professionals for an enjoyable breakfast, valuable discussion, and networking - with a particular focus on intestacy.

Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the first event such a success. The network will meet regularly on the last Thursday of each month, and we look forward to welcoming others in future sessions.

Family fallouts hit the headlines when celebrities are involved, but honestly, they’re everyday occurrences in my line of work.

Most family disagreements aren’t about one big row. They build up slowly through changing expectations, old sensitivities and people growing in different directions.

Families evolve. Sometimes that brings people closer, sometimes it creates distance. And usually, it’s a lot more complicated than it looks from the outside.
