Black bean and celery soup

Energetics
Black beans are a great tonic for kidneys and they have diuretic properties helping to resolve dampness and Water. They also nourish the blood and the Yin (replenishes and supports fluid loss) and are supported in their Damp resolving action by the celery which cools the system and removes Water (supports internal heat) . The seaweed nourishes the Blood and Yin as well as draining Water, the carrot compliments the Blood nourishing action of the beans, and the onion provides warmth and movement. “Recipes for self healing”

1/2 lb dried black beans
Strip of wake me seaweed

3 sticks of celery
1 onion
1 Carrot
2 tsp of fresh or dried savory
Zest of large orange

1 - 2 tbsp miso
Juice of lemon

Soak beans over night if needed then cook with the seaweed until very tender. Chip the vegetables and bring them to boil in a separate pan and simmer until just softening. Add the beans with any remaining juice, the orange rind and the savory. Cook for further 10 minutes and stir in miso and partially liquidise the soup. Serve with a squeeze of 🍋 juice

A dark, smooth and deeply nourishing soup for a winters day 🙏

Spirit Deficiency ✨

Ren 8

The only point on the body that is forbidden to needle so this point is done mostly by putting salt as a leveller into the belly button or a piece of ginger (my preference for any gastro or digestive issues) with lots of moxa then burned down into the point which enhances, encourages, nourishes and gets the spirit moving

The “Spiritual cord” of life. This point as well as being great for gastrointestinal disorders is good for birth trauma and also when someone is exhausted and they may feel depleted. Great point for someone worn down over a long time, when their vital energy seems low. It gives heat and warmth to the spirit.

Ren 8 (spirit deficiency) strengthens and regulates the Spleen and Stomach, regulates the Intestines, warms the interior, reduces digestive stagnation, tonifies the Kidneys, warms the Yang, regulates the Water pathways and is effective for Dampness and Damp-Cold

Winter season = Water Element 💦 ✨

In Chinese Medicine, the Water element embodies adaptability, wisdom, and potential, linked to winter, the Kidneys and Bladder, and emotions like fear and willpower, representing deep energy, fluid balance, and life’s essence (Jing)

In assessing the qualities of each element within a human being, imagine how the expression occurs in nature.

Think of a river carving its course through a valley and you’ll understand the Water Element. Water Types can be calm and serene similar to a still reflective lake and are able to go with the flow. On contrast look at a river over flowing its banks, a tidal wave overwhelming all that lies in its path, or as an entire ocean, deep, dark, and secretive.

The main emotion associated to the Water element is fear and when the water element within us is in balance we are able to assess the risks and dangers that life or situations present and act accordingly. However strong Water types can struggle with this process and can be governed by fear or lack of but their main aim is determination to survive. Maintaining balance involves rest, dark foods, and practices like Tai Chi to support vitality and resilience💧💦

Back problems 🔦

Sitting haunched at the computer all day, typing and staring at screens can wreak havoc on the body and over time can cause a lot of unnecessary pain and tension especially on the back

There are long luscious muscles in the front of your pelvis and if you sit for 8 plus hours a day, the muscles habituate to being in a shortened position. It is important to remind them a few times a day to lengthen by reversing the posture by incorporating simple stretches into your working day

There is a reason why in Chinese medicine we stipulate to enjoy, be present and take your time with your food. The spleen works hard to break the food down so it can transform and transport to where it needs to go. If you suffer with any digestive issues or bloating and wonder why, then maybe have a look at not just what you are eating but how you are eating

Be kind to your spleen and to yourself 🙏

Some great info from the Principle of my Collage explaining how Acupuncture can play a role as drug companies pull out of UK meaning we could lose access to vital medications 🙏

Gua Sha ✨

This is a Chinese word that is pronounced as Gwah-Shah is defined in two parts — “Gua” means “scrape” while ‘Sha’ is the “redness of skin”. The Chimese say it is a method of scraping away disease, fever or some type of sickness from the body generally.

It is a healing procedure copied from traditional East Asian medicine. It used to be a natural traditional therapy that involves using a “spatula” made from buffalo horn to massage the skin.

qi or chi is energy that flows through the body. It is important that our Qi (Chi) is balanced and flowing freely for us little people to remain healthy and free of pain and diseasee,

When Qi become blocked there can be pain or tension in the muscles and joints. Gua sha aims to move this blocked energy to relieve aches or stiffness and also reduces inflammation 💥

I will often use Gu sha after needling for it’s added healing and benefits or it can be done as a stand alone treatment
