Some great info from the Principle of my Collage explaining how Acupuncture can play a role as drug companies pull out of UK meaning we could lose access to vital medications 🙏

Gua Sha ✨

This is a Chinese word that is pronounced as Gwah-Shah is defined in two parts — “Gua” means “scrape” while ‘Sha’ is the “redness of skin”. The Chimese say it is a method of scraping away disease, fever or some type of sickness from the body generally.

It is a healing procedure copied from traditional East Asian medicine. It used to be a natural traditional therapy that involves using a “spatula” made from buffalo horn to massage the skin.

qi or chi is energy that flows through the body. It is important that our Qi (Chi) is balanced and flowing freely for us little people to remain healthy and free of pain and diseasee,

When Qi become blocked there can be pain or tension in the muscles and joints. Gua sha aims to move this blocked energy to relieve aches or stiffness and also reduces inflammation 💥

I will often use Gu sha after needling for it’s added healing and benefits or it can be done as a stand alone treatment

What is Tuina ❓

After nearly coming to the end of my Level 3 Tuina training in body work I feel it is a good time to let you all in on this beautiful healing modality 🙏

Tuina is a comprehensive system of bodywork that aims to restore the natural flow of qi (vital energy) throughout the body’s meridian channels. This ancient form of therapeutic bodywork has been healing bodies and restoring balance for over 2,000 years.

Rooted in the same philosophical foundations as acupuncture, Tuina operates on the principle that illness and discomfort arise when the body’s energy becomes blocked or imbalanced. Through manipulation of the skins fascia, connective tissues, sinew channels, acupressure points, joint traction and mobilization, Tuina techniques work to remove these blockages and promote the free flow of Blood and Qi as well as balancing Yin and Yang thus promoting harmony to the body’s energetic system

I have been using this system in clinic alongside acupuncture and or cupping therapy to support a lot of conditions in my clinic 🙏

Messages like these 🙏

Great result using Tuina and Acupuncture. Starting with some gentle Tuina to help the body relax and open the channels. Then focusing on binding points on the lower limbs and around the ankles. Binding points are an area where all our tendons and ligaments come together and can become tight and releasing these can help with pain and free movement. I then used some gentle traction to create space in the joints before placing in the needles 🙏

Sweet Potato & Kale Frittata to nourish yin

Serves 4 | Prep 20 mins |
Cook 30 mins

Ingredients
VG GF
1 large red onion
1 large or 2 small sweet
potatoes
200g (7 oz) kale
3 eggs
300ml (10 fl oz) whole
milk
100g (3.5 oz) cheddar
cheese
Nutmeg
Salt and Pepper
Olive Oil
Method
If available use a frying pan that can be placed under the grill (i.e. no plastic handle or Teflon).

Finely chop the onion and cook with a little olive oil in a large frying pan for 8 minutes or so until soft. Meanwhile peel and grate the sweet potatoes, then add this to the onion and stir through for a couple of minutes. Roughly chop the kale removing any large stalks, then add this to the pan and stir through. Season with salt and pepper and some grated nutmeg. Reduce to a very low heat. Break the eggs into a bowl and beat with a fork. Grate the cheese. Mix the eggs and cheese into the milk. Pour this mixture over the vegetables in the frying pan. Cook on a low heat on the hob for 10 minutes or so until the egg mixture has cooked. For the final few minutes place the whole frying pan under the grill to brown the top of the frittata (only if using a suitable
pan). Cut into portions and serve with a green salad.

In Chinese medicine yin is the water of the body, its lubricant and the fuel and when strong all body processes are well oiled. YIN can become depleted when we are overdoing it and running on empty. We can burn up and borrow resources we can’t replenish and the lack of our cooling lubricant can make us overheat and dry up. You can support your YIN through food 🥘

Spotlight on Fertility Support ✨

When my patient first came to see me for support she was around 14 months in on what had been a very lengthy and a roller coaster of a journey with assisted conception that had impacted on her both physically and mentally. Jess had had 2 failed rounds of IVF with two successful with one resulting in early miscarriage. Some of the side effects of the drugs needed in assisting with IVF are mood swings, bloating, hot flushes, headaches and also extreme fatigue due to the heightened level of progesterone in the body and acupuncture can be a great support for these 💥

Acupuncture during fertility treatment such as IVF or frozen embryo transfer can assist your body to respond to the medication and can help you feel positive and relaxed. A number of studies have also reported increased IVF success rates associated with regular acupuncture treatment during the stimulation phase.

Jess was due to have her 3rd transfer just a few weeks after first coming to see me which was successful, but sadly at her first scan there was no heart beat and she sadly had to wait for a natural miscarriage to occur. We continued with treatment and I supported Jess with emotional needs with grief being one of them first and foremost. Early miscarriage in Chinese medicine is termed as Blood and Kid (xu) so boosting the blood and qi and strengthening Kidney essence was also a prime focus in my treatments. A 4th transfer was scheduled and this resulted in a succesful pregnancy which wasn’t without its problems, however my patient went on to give birth naturally to a healthy baby boy 👶 🙏

Kidney 24 - Spiritual Burial Ground - An Acupuncture Point to Resurrect the Spirit, Release Burden, & Reawaken Wonder ✨

You know that feeling of being on top of the world? You have so much energy! So much vitality! Your eyes are shining with life and you feel completely connected to everything around you.

And then there is the ‘dark night of the soul’ feeling - a time in our lives when we feel completely lost and hopeless. There is no energy, life feels meaningless, we don’t feel like ourselves, and have no direction. It truly feels like our Spirit has died.

Spirit Burial Ground can help restore a persons experience of themself as a potent force in the universe by returning them to their spiritual source. The quality of energy present in this point may be likened to bringing water to the desert so that life may flourish. It is a powerful reminder that we have access to a powerful and constant inner source of vitality. This point resurrects the ling, which is the yin of the heart spirit. I use this point with moxa…. Just wonderful

It also point opens the chest, clears heat and disperses swelling, revives the spirit, calms the Mind and tonifies the Kidneys 💥
