We will explore Somatic Narrative-what’s going on in our bodies when we talk about or reflect on problematic or painful events. Indian head massage, or champi, is over 5,000 years old and is derived from Ayurvedic principles of balancing the body’s energetic flow. During the treatment a combination of Indian Head massage techniques to the upper back, shoulders, arms, hands, neck, scalp and face are applied. The Ayurvedic approach to health is the balance of body, mind and spirit. The Ayurvedic principle considers that if a body’s energetic channels do not flow properly negative energy builds up causing many common ailments, including stress, pains and aches, neurological impairment, or hair loss. Indian Head Massage may bring relief to those suffering from tension in the shoulders, neck strain, headaches, jaw tension, sinus problems and migraines. It has a nurturing quality and that it has many physiological as well as psychological benefits. Lymphatic drainage massage stimulates the lymph through the one-way drainage pathways within the body. It is gentler than some forms of massage and uses flowing rhythmic movements. The aim is to reduce swelling-oedema and support your body with the detoxification process. Lymphoedema is a build up of proteins and fluid in the tissues leading to swelling and is a result of either genes or a blockage in the lymph vessels. This can be caused by; surgery where lymph nodes or tissue have been removed, radiotherapy-destroying lymph nodes or blocking them, severe burns or injury, paralysis of limbs, emotional/physical trauma, and chronic venous insufficiency. Lymphatic Drainage is not just a cancer specific massage, the lymphatic system may be compromised for a number of reasons as listed. It can support your body with oedema, sinus problems, puffy eyes, fluid retention, IBS, swollen legs and ankles, lymphoedema, muscle damage, PMS, changes in hormones, pelvic discomfort, detoxification, relaxation and aid your body with the healing process. Pregnancy massage involves the manipulation of the body’s soft tissue (i.e. the skin, muscles, tendons, ligaments and facia) using the hands in a gentle, flowing massage technique. There are basic massage techniques which make up the treatment, they are effleurage, petrissage, frictions, vibrations. The techniques use varying degrees of pressure and stretching movements. It is a very gentle form of massage and it is most commonly used for easing muscular tension and stress as well as relaxation and improving health and well-being during pregnancy.A treatment has the capacity to improve circulation, increase oxygen, and relax the client. This boosts the self-healing mechanisms of the body. The massage can only be done after the first trimester of pregnancy and not before. Arvigo Abdominal Therapy is founded on an ancient Maya technique of non-invasive, external abdominal massage. It stimulates circulation and blood flow within the abdominal area, supporting your body for optimal functioning in digestive health and female hormone health relating to your menstrual cycle and the transition from peri-menopause through to post menopause. Guided Meditation tackles stress by teaching us how to be more aware of the thoughts, feelings and sensations rather than us trying to eliminate it. By regularly practising meditation you can support your nervous system to be more flexible in regulating itself and responding to stress in appropriate ways.

The Benefits of Massage Therapy 🌿

Massage isn’t just about relaxation — it’s a proven way to support your body and mind in everyday life. 💆‍♀️✨

Here are some of the key benefits:
💚 Reduces Stress & Anxiety – Massage lowers cortisol (the stress hormone) and increases serotonin and dopamine, helping you feel calmer and more balanced.

💚 Eases Muscle Tension & Pain – Regular massage helps release tightness, improve circulation, and support recovery from injury or strain.

💚 Boosts Circulation & Immunity – Gentle pressure stimulates blood and lymph flow, delivering oxygen and nutrients to cells while supporting your body’s natural defences.

💚 Improves Sleep Quality – By calming the nervous system, massage can promote deeper, more restorative rest.

💚 Supports Emotional Wellbeing – Safe, nurturing touch plays an important role in helping us feel grounded and connected.

✨ According to the American Massage Therapy Association, research shows that massage therapy is effective for reducing pain, improving mood, and enhancing overall quality of life (AMTA, 2023).

Massage is more than a luxury — it’s self-care with real health benefits. 🌸

🌿 Why Scar Massage Therapy Matters After Surgery 🌿
Recovering from surgery? Gentle scar massage can play a powerful role in your healing journey—not just for how the scar looks, but for how it feels and moves.

✨ Boosts Flexibility & Mobility
Scar tissue can stick to underlying layers, limiting movement. Massage helps soften the tissue, reduce adhesions, and restore a greater range of motion. A physical therapy review found that nearly 90% of treated surgical scars showed improved appearance or movement when massage was incorporated.

✨ Supports Healing & Comfort
Massage encourages blood flow and nutrient delivery to the area, helping the skin become more pliable and receive the care it needs—especially during that crucial remodeling phase.

✨ Eases Sensitivity & Discomfort
Scar sites can feel tender, itchy, or hypersensitive. Gentle, regular massage helps desensitize the nerves and brings welcome comfort to the area.

Tip: Start scar massage when your wound is fully healed (typically about 4–6 weeks post-op), and always check with your healthcare provider first before booking at Connective Healing.
Healing happens from both the outside in—and scar massage can help guide that process with care, ease, and intention.

Arvigo® Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy

The Arvigo® Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy are a non-invasive, external, massage technique. When applied, they guide internal abdominal organs into their proper position for optimum health and well being. The techniques work by relieving congestion and blockages to improve the flow of chi and fluids of the circulatory, lymphatic and nervous systems to prevent the progression of chronic disease symptomatology. This results in improved organ function by releasing physical and emotional congestion from the abdomen. These techniques are effective for both men and women.

How do the techniques work for women?
