🎀BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH🎀

At Ribbleton Medical Centre, we are proud to stand in solidarity with those affected by breast cancer — the fighters, the survivors, and the loved ones we’ve lost. 💗

We believe that awareness and early detection can save lives. This month, we encourage our employees, patients and community to prioritise their health: schedule your mammogram, learn the signs, and support organisations making a difference.

Here are meaningful ways to take part in Breast Cancer Awareness Month:
🌸 1. Raise Awareness - wear pink and share educational posts on social media.
💬 2. Educate and Advocate - learn about early detection and encourage others to do the same.
💖 3. Support Patients and Survivors - volunteer with support groups.
🏃‍♀️ 4. Fundraise or Donate - Join or sponsor events such as race for life.

Tomorrow, we will be taking part in 'Wear It Pink Day' to raise funds for the Breast Cancer Now charity.

Together, we can raise awareness, inspire hope, and move one step closer to a cure🌸

👶🌈 BABY LOSS AWARENESS WEEK 👶🌈

It’s a time of remembrance for the lives of babies taken too soon and for reflection, and compassion for anyone affected by the heartbreak of losing a baby. 💗💙👼

We are sending love, light & healing to parents and families navigating their loss.

Wave of Light is an opportunity to join with bereaved parents, families and friends around the globe to commemorate all babies. It takes place at 7pm on 15 October every year, the last day of Baby Loss Awareness Week. To join the global ‘Wave of Light’, simply light a candle at 7pm local time on 15th October and leave it burning for at least one hour.

You can also wear a pink and blue ribbon — a sign of solidarity, so no one grieves in silence.

You may find it helpful to talk about your feelings, and NHS support is available. For more help and support with grief, visit: https://www.nhs.uk/mental-health/feelings-symptoms-behaviours/feelings-and-symptoms/grief-bereavement-loss/

💊 PRESCRIPTIONS 💊
Please note, we can only issue same day prescriptions for medication that is critical. This means that there would be a significant impact on a patient’s health if a dose was missed.
Any urgent requests not seen as critical will be sent to the pharmacy the next working day.
You can order medication up to a week before you are due to run out.
We would like to remind you of the methods available to order your prescription. These are:
📧 Email (our email address is lscicb-gp.ribbletonprescriptions@nhs.net)
📱 NHS app
🏥 Coming into the surgery
Please note that we do not accept telephone orders unless agreed with the surgery.
We would be grateful if once a prescription has been ordered, you do not ring the surgery to chase it up. Please ring your nominated pharmacy as they will be able to provide a more accurate update.

An Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm is a swelling in the aorta, which happens due to the weakening of the artery walls with age. If not spotted or left untreated it can become too large and rupture, which will cause internal bleeding. Men aged 65 and over are most at risk of developing an AAA; they are 6 times more likely to have one than women of the same age.

Evidence shows screening can halve the risk of dying from a ruptured AAA. Generally, an AAA will produce no symptoms, so attending routine screening is the best way to detect one. Screening involves an ultrasound of the stomach, which takes around 10 minutes.

💜 WORLD ALZHEIMER'S MONTH 💜

This takes place each year to raise awareness and challenge stigma surrounding Alzheimer's and dementia. One million people in the UK live with the disease, and as that figure is set to triple by 2050, it is vital to re-frame attitudes associated with Alzheimer's and dementia, as many still believe that it is a part of normal ageing.
