It’s beginning to look alot like Christmas!

We’ve made a start to putting up the Christmas trees on our units today and one lady on Sharrow Bay couldn’t wait to get involved.

There’s something exciting about the tree going up no matter how old you are!

The theme of yesterday’s Art Therapy session was Movember.

We had a lot of fun creating these fabulous moustaches while raising awareness of men’s health issues. We also had two new people join in the sessions who really enjoyed it and asked our Art Therapist Jane if she was going again tomorrow!

We’re lucky enough to have two, one hour Art Therapy sessions every Wednesday. The locations of each sessions vary to give all units a chance of hosting, but all residents are welcome to attend, regardless of where they reside.

Save the date! Families welcome.

Here’s a look at what’s happening next week here at Hulton House.

As well as our weekly Music and Art therapy sessions we’ll be getting ready for Christmas creating our Santa’s grotto and decking out halls ready for the festive season.

If you’d like to come along and decorate with your loved one, you’re more than welcome.

What’s not to love?!

Yesterday’s Art Therapy session had an ‘Autumnal Owls’ theme and we created two beautiful collaborative artworks to add to our gallery.

Sessions took place in St Anne’s and Sharrow Bay. One resident from St Anne’s enjoyed it so much he wanted to join the second session, so he moved units and painted for a second hour on Sharrow Bay. How amazing is that?!

Did you know that Autumn is when you are most likely to hear Owls hooting? Well it is and that’s because it’s the time their parents encourage them to leave the nest and find their own territory and a mate.

Tawny Owls make more noise than all the other four species of Owls put together during this time. And all the extra shrieking, hooting, and kee-wicking is down to claiming territory. By late winter they will be settling down with their mate and getting ready to raise their young.

They are such beautiful and majestic creatures. We are lucky enough to have a visit from John the Owl man every now and again. We learn about all about them and get to hold them too. It’s magical!

Tuesday’s Sport themed Exercise Therapy was held on St Anne’s and the gents there were very eager to get involved.

There was a great rally between two residents during noodle tennis, and some great action in volley ball too. Obviously some keen sportsmen in our midst!

Yesterday was Music Therapy Monday and we rounded the day off with our choir.

Our choir is open to all and it was lovely to see family and team members attending to support our residents. A choir is a beautiful way to come together
and share in the joy of singing. It not only boosts your musicality, it can improve self confidence and mental health, gives a great work out and helps you make new friends.

Our Music Therapist Debbie runs a choir in her spare time. They’re called ‘Sing it Big’ and they will be performing for us in December. Be sure to look out for the poster advertising the date soon.

In the meantime, if you’d like to join our choir you are more than welcome. We meet every Monday at 3pm. You don’t have to be a professional singer, it’s inclusive of all levels of ability.

Last Saturday was sensory morning.

We conducted a senses quiz and everyone really loved trying to get the right answer. Some people even managed to get them all right!

We guessed the smells of different fruits ( some were harder than others) and we also had some sensory toys and slime to feel. We had a lovely ‘Magic moment’ with one lady in her room who doesn’t usually like to leave it. She enjoyed chatting to Wellbeing Coordinator Roseanne, feeling the slime then feeling the soft toys. Some made a noise and she delighted in this very much.
