Sound familiar?

Overthinking at night or recalling uncomfortable memories that literally make you cringe when you’re trying to sleep can be a frustrating and exhausting experience. Understanding it’s underlying causes can help us develop strategies to manage and overcome it.

By recognising the influence of our neurological makeup and implementing some positive habits we can change the narrative to create a more peaceful and restful state of mind when it's time to sleep.

With clinical hypnotherapy you can gain control over your thoughts and find serenity in the silence of the night.

Exercise is so important for improving our mental health… but what if you’re not a gym person like me or hate the thought of high intensity workouts? What if you only enjoy a walk and that’s it, will that do? The answer is absolutely!

Walking is a simple yet effective way to boost your mental health. Here are some benefits of walking for mental health:

1. Reduces stress and anxiety: Walking helps to reduce stress by releasing endorphins in the brain, which can elevate your mood and make you feel more relaxed. It also helps to reduce anxiety by improving blood flow to the brain and promoting the release of calming neurotransmitters.
2. Boosts self-esteem: Walking can help to boost your self-esteem by providing a sense of accomplishment and achievement. Going for a walk can also help you to clear your mind and focus on positive thoughts.
3. Improves cognitive function: Walking has been shown to improve cognitive function, including memory, attention, and processing speed. It can also help to reduce the risk of cognitive decline in older adults.
4. Enhances creativity: Walking can enhance your creativity by providing a change of scenery and stimulating your senses. It can also help you to overcome mental blocks and generate new ideas.
5. Promotes better sleep: Walking can help to improve the quality of your sleep by reducing stress and anxiety, promoting relaxation, and regulating your circadian rhythm.

So, if you're looking for a simple yet effective way to improve your mental health, you don’t have to sign up to a gym, just consider adding a daily walk to your routine.

I was out in the today, planting some for 💐🌱 Having not been out there throughout the dark, cold winter, I’d almost forgotten how good gardening makes me feel 😊🪴

Did you know gardening is great for our mental wellbeing? 🧠
Here’s 5 reasons why:

1. Stress relief; gardening relieves by releasing and our body's natural feel-good hormones
2. Staying present; when you’re focussed on what you’re doing in that moment you’re less able to worry about the past or the future
3. A sense of purpose; it’s great to have a job to do, something to nurture, keep an eye on, and watch flourish over the months
4. Helps you to keep in shape; dependent on what you’re doing, gardening can be quite strenuous, as good as or better than a work out
5. Strengthens your immune system; being out in the fresh air and messing about in soil rich with nutrients gives that system a good old boost

Why not give it a try today? Even if you don’t have a garden, you can plant things in pots in a yard or balcony, seeds or herbs in small pots on a windowsill. There is plenty of inspiration to be found on instagram for starting out and for those with limited space. Get those happy hormones and green fingers 😊😊

We all know it’s cold and dark and we’re tired, there are lots of reasons to dread especially when everyone is telling you it’s the worst one of the year…

BUT it’s coming anyway, so why not try to reframe your thoughts by thinking about the aspects of Mondays and make it the best it can be?

I talk about the 3P’s often, practicing POSITIVE Thoughts, Actions and Interactions help us to view things more optimistically.

Try them to get yourself ready for this Monday going in with a fresh mind… Here are a few ideas to get you started…

Mondays are the start of a brand new week, like a bit of a reset button. You can leave any negatives from the previous week behind and go into this week with a clean sheet… just like that!

Studies show Mondays are often the most productive day of the week so you’ll likely make a great start on your to do list!

Your Monday morning thoughts set the tone for your week. Those who start Mondays with positive affirmations, go on to have a better week… so tell yourself ‘I start this week brand new, and bring my best self into it’ ‘I am strong, capable and deserving, I will succeed’

You’ve handled every single Monday so far, and you’ll continue to do so. Trust yourself, you’ve got this! 💪

Take some time for a bit of self care this week, longer showers or baths, a nice walk, a YouTube work out or yoga, 20/30 mins is plenty and perfectly doable, set a day and time to make them happen.

Mondays in January are great for grabbing a bargain, there are plenty of sales still on, so go on, treat yourself!

Make a plan of what you want to achieve this week, don’t try and cram it all in to one day, you’ll be more likely to give up, so prioritise and take it in bite sized chunks spread across the week. Congratulate yourself as you tick off each one 👏

Who cheers you up? Check out your diary and make some social plans so you have something to look forward to, catch up with a fun friend, colleague, gym buddy, or a dinner date. Take those endorphins! 😃

I remember not being able to face Christmas myself once, I spent most of the time sat alone in my house in silence.
I didn’t even want to put the TV on, I just couldn’t wait for it all to be over.

I had invitations from friends and family to join them but I made my excuses because I couldn’t face it.

I felt guilty, but I was struggling with my mental health, I couldn’t pretend to be ‘merry and bright’ I genuinely didn’t feel I had anything to be happy about at the time and I certainly didn’t want to be miserable around other people or have a drink in case I cried. I just wanted to get through it and that was that.

It had never happened before and it hasn’t happened since but it happens for a lot of people for a lot of different reasons.

So you or someone you know might be ‘having a quiet one’ this year or putting on a brave face for others, or openly struggling to look forward to any of the festivities…
That’s okay, don’t beat yourself up about it, do what you have to do to get through, just know that you are not alone and that you won’t always feel like this ❤️

There is free, confidential support available outside of your usual network if you want it, a stranger to talk to or text if it’s less daunting than opening up to someone you know. Sometimes just getting things out can help, or even writing things down.

If you do know of someone who might be struggling, just a text or a call to let them know you’re thinking of them could really make a difference. Not forcing them to be happy with you or questioning why they aren’t partying or telling them they’re being boring… just caring, making some informal, non Christmassy plans like a walk or a coffee, or just sending a virtual hug and letting them know you’re there when they’re ready. They will be ready, just maybe not yet.

Sending lots of love to you all this 🎄

If Christmas is hard,
If you’ve lost someone dear.
Just look in your heart,
And you’ll know they’re still here.

The star in the sky,
The light falling snow.
The robin outside,
It seems like they know.

If this is a time,
When you’re struggling through.
Just do what you can,
For what matters, is you.

There’s no need to be merry,
There’s no need to bright.
Just do what you can,
It will all be alright.

Mid already 😮

A little to look after yourself on this and in fact every other day of the year! 💪

We all forget from time to time that we are in fact our biggest and if we are well and feeling confident and in control then it’s not just best for us but for everyone around us too! 😊

💫 So let this be your sign to stop, reset, ask for help if you need it and make a plan for your self care, whatever that may be for you 🙏

Speaking of which, a bubble bath, funny film, fresh sheets, hot chocolate and an early night is on my agenda tonight 🧡

For years I had a pad and pen by my bed. Before I went to sleep I’d write down my thoughts or ideas or things I knew I needed to do the next day. Having this information logged somewhere helped me feel less pressure to remember everything and to stop laying there worrying about it. I knew it was all in my pad, right next to me, safe, and I had a plan ready for the morning.

This is also useful if you find you wake up in the night with things on your mind, don’t lay there thinking about it, just get it written down, or typed on your phone - however you want to do it, so you can get it out of your head and tackle it the next day…
This definitely helped me to get to sleep more quickly and over time I wrote less and less as I got more on top of things. Or you might just prefer to do it forever!

about your day 🖊
Writing down what you’re for / good things that have happened 🙏
Or even creating a ✍️ is a great to adopt for managing or and decluttering the mind 🧠

Might be one for you to try.

So true from

No one needs us to go over the problem, pointing out the obvious, comparing us to others, telling us how we feel and making us feel even worse about it…

What we need is support, encouragement and empowerment to find our own solutions! Because guess what?
We know the issues, and we know the answers too… but we might struggle to take the right steps when our is full, we’re in we’ve developed or and we’re busy worrying about everyone’s opinions whilst constantly berating ourselves…

Solution focussed hypnotherapy helps us quieten the mind, let go of the worry and reminds us of who we are 💪🏻 so we can take back control and focus on being where we want to be.
