Nick Brownjohn Counselling

Nick Brownjohn Counselling As a qualified therapist registered with the NCPS, I have lots of experience in working with a wide variety of issues.

I can help you move towards change or acceptance of what you cannot alter, thereby helping you feel better and more like you again. I work with adults who have low self-confidence and esteem, who are self-critical and who believe that they aren't good enough. In our sessions, I will help you understand where these feelings come from and how they make you limit your self-belief. Once this ground work is done, we will be able to work on strategies to overcome self-limiting thoughts and behaviours, to enable you to find ways to live how you want. This will then help you do the things you want without worrying about judgement from others. E-mail me now to book an appointment: nickbrownjohncounselling@gmail.com

My cats give me so much joy and I appreciate them every single day. What brings you happiness and makes you feel grateful?

Healing doesn’t only happen in the therapy room — it also happens in the quiet moments we give ourselves.

One of the simplest, most powerful ways to ground yourself is by walking in nature. No phones. No distractions. Just you, your breath, and the earth beneath your feet.

When your mind is racing or you feel overwhelmed, step outside. Feel the ground with each step. Notice the textures, colours, and sounds around you. Breathe deeply. Let nature remind you: you are here, you are safe, and you are supported.

Meditation can help when feeling overwhelmed. Just 10 minutes a day can reduce stress, improve focus, and enhance emotional well-being. This is because it activates areas of the brain linked to positive emotions and can lower cortisol, the stress hormone.

Here’s how:

Find a quiet space and sit comfortably.

Focus on your breath—inhale, exhale.

Let thoughts come and go without judgment.

Start with just 5 minutes and gradually increase.

It's not about clearing your mind but rather creating space to breathe, reflect and be present.

Your mind and body will thank you!

When was the last time you reassessed your values?
Values aren't what you want to get or achieve but rather how you want to be and act.
If you have clear values, you can shape your life accordingly.
I've been doing lots of values work lately with clients, so it felt appropriate to re-look at my own.
One of them is to be curious through exploration. As you can see, my dive into watercolour painting has led me to discover that it isn't my forte. However, I did enjoy myself, which ticks another of my values; having fun!
What are your values?

Challenging yourself to overcome self-doubt can be life-changing. It’s easy to let fear hold us back, but when we push past those feelings, we unlock new strengths and abilities. A great way to start is by taking small risks, like stepping outside your comfort zone and doing something that scares you.

I know firsthand how powerful it can be—check out this video of me singing the verses solo with the ukulele group that I'm in at an open mic night! It's proof that taking a chance and facing those fears can lead to amazing things.

Remember, growth happens when we embrace the challenge.

Had a great time last night supporting my friend's charity fundraiser open mic night to raise money for a women's centre . On a personal level, it was great to have pushed myself by making my debut singing at an open mic night and performing songs written or performed by women. Loved duetting with my gorgeous friend, Swin, and belting out Love Is A Stranger (Eurythmics), Bullet Proof (La Roux), Your Ghost (Kristen Hersh) and Gimme, Gimme, Gimme A Man After Midnight (ABBA).
Fun evening through raising awareness and money.

I'm thrilled that my application to become a Accredited Professional member of the National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society has been accepted. This was a rigorous process that I am pleased to have completed as it acts like a kite mark for my clients by highlighting that I have a certain level of training and experience.

Why counselling?

No matter what you are going through, no difficulty is too small or too big to bring to counselling sessions with me. I am here to listen to you, to accept you, to help you see more clearly and to help you move forward.

Sometimes everyone needs some support and maybe you would like help dealing with a significant life event. Perhaps you are suffering with depression and are finding things too hard to face. Possibly the stress and anxiety that you are experiencing are impacting on all areas of your life. Maybe you are struggling to come to terms with accepting yourself. Perhaps a past event has left a wound that just isn't healing. Whatever it is that you would like help with, I will never tell you what to do, nor will I advise you, but I will help you to make changes in your life and help you to feel more in control.

I recognise that it can be hard choosing the right counsellor but I hope it helps to know that as an accredited member of the National Counselling Society (in turn accredited by the Professional Standards Authority), I follow a strict code of ethics and follow stringent professional standards, ensuring that I offer you the best service that I can.
