Preston North (Fatima Health Centre) and Preston South (Penwortham Golf Club)- Free to attend, peer to peer support groups for men over 18, every Monday from 7pm to 9pm excluding bank holidays. We open the doors from 6.30pm to provide a friendly welcome along with a brew, biscuit, and a brief introduction from the facilitators.

Tonight the 300th group of Andys Man Club opens at Nottingham.
The doors of each group open at 6.30pm before each session starts at 7pm.

We would like to let you know that ear syringing (also known as ear irrigation) is no longer commissioned by the NHS, and therefore we are sadly unable to continue to offer this service at our practice.

Why this has changed:

* Safety concerns: Syringing is no longer recommended due to risks like ear canal damage, infections, and even perforation of the eardrum. NICE guidance advises against its use in general practice

* Commissioning decisions: Local NHS funding has shifted away from routine ear syringing. While some providers might still offer microsuction under strict eligibility, most cases now require private referral

What you can do now:

1. Self-care: Use wax-softening drops or olive oil for 1-2 weeks. Most cases improve without further intervention

2. Private microsuction: This is the safer and more precise method compared to syringing: it uses a gentle vacuum under direct vision, avoiding the use of water and reducing the risk of complications. Many reputable clinics, offer microsuction for around £50-£90

We understand this may be inconvenient, but this change reflects current clinical guidelines and ensures your safety. Thank you for your understanding.

We have been informed by our clinical system provider that following the IT outage on Friday, functionality should have been restored.

We have been told to expect system performance to be degraded throughout Monday as services come back online, so we would ask that you remain patient with staff when contacting the surgery tomorrow as it’s highly likely that the system will be very slow and not all functionality will be available to us. We will also have a backlog of prescription requests and results to action.

For patients with pre-booked appointments, please attend these as planned.
