By using telehealth (digital consultations) and local community clinics, we’re making it easier than ever to see a specialist. This means:

- Shorter waiting times – Get diagnosed and treated sooner.
- Less travel – CHEC hospitals are in the heart of your community.
- Expert care – The same high standards, but in a more comfortable, local setting.

We’re proud to work alongside the NHS to reduce pressure on hospitals, ensuring that everyone gets the right care, at the right time, in the right place.

When should you see a GP?

We all experience a blocked nose or a bit of earache from time to time, but how do you know when it’s more than just a passing cold?

While many minor ear, nose, and throat (ENT) issues clear up with rest and over-the-counter treatments, some symptoms require a professional opinion. Early intervention can often prevent more serious complications down the line.

Check in with your GP if you experience:

- Persistent Ear Issues: Earache that lasts more than a few days, a sudden change in hearing, or regular discharge.
- A Prolonged Sore Throat: If a sore throat persists for over three weeks or is accompanied by difficulty swallowing.
- Nasal Obstruction: Chronic congestion or a reduced sense of smell that doesn't improve with standard allergy or cold care.
- Lumps and Swellings: Any new or unexplained lumps in the neck or throat area.
- Hoarseness: A croaky or hoarse voice that lasts for more than three weeks.

Why it matters
Your GP can provide an initial assessment and, if necessary, refer you to a specialist service like CHEC for further diagnostics or treatment.

Don't wait for the symptoms to worsen—your health is the priority.

Protecting Your Skin This Summer ☀️
As the weather warms up, it’s time to rethink your skincare routine. While we all love a bit of sunshine, UV radiation remains the leading cause of premature ageing and skin damage.

Our dermatology experts at CHEC have shared their top tips for keeping your skin healthy and protected:

- Apply Broad-Spectrum SPF: Use at least SPF 30 and ensure it offers both UVA and UVB protection. Don't forget easy-to-miss spots like your ears, neck, and the tops of your feet!
- Seek Shade: The sun is at its strongest between 11:00 and 15:00. If you're out and about, try to stay in the shade during these peak hours.
- Wear Protective Clothing: A wide-brimmed hat, UV-blocking sunglasses, and lightweight, long-sleeved linen can act as a physical barrier against harmful rays.
- Stay Hydrated: Warm weather can lead to water loss. Drink plenty of water to maintain your skin’s natural moisture barrier from the inside out.

If you have concerns about a new mole, a persistent rash, or any changes to your skin, our dermatology team is here to help. We provide efficient, expert-led consultations to give you peace of mind without the long wait times.

Fuel Your Gut, Feel Your Best 🥗
What we eat does more than just satisfy hunger—it plays a vital role in our digestive health and overall wellbeing. At CHEC, we believe that understanding the link between your diet and your gut is the first step toward a healthier lifestyle.

Supporting your gastroenterological health doesn’t have to be complicated. Small, mindful changes can make a massive difference to how you feel every day.

💡 Top Tips for a Gut-Friendly Plate:
✅Prioritise Fibre: Aim for a variety of whole grains, fruits, and vegetables to keep your digestive system moving smoothly.
✅Stay Hydrated: Water is essential for digestion and helps your body absorb nutrients effectively.
✅Embrace Fermented Foods: Items like natural yoghurt, kefir, and sauerkraut are packed with "friendly" bacteria (probiotics) that support a balanced gut microbiome.
✅Listen to Your Body: Pay attention to how different foods make you feel. Keeping a food diary can help identify what works best for you.

Your digestive health is a pillar of your general wellness. If you have concerns or are experiencing persistent symptoms, our specialist teams are here to provide expert care and guidance.
