🔵🌕 Iron Tonic 🌕🔵
Under the energy of the Aquarius true blue supermoon I made my herbal Iron Tonic. I start by slow cooking apricots & molasses for 24 hours. I filled the slow cooker at 11pm on the 18th, as the almost full moon shone a deep red in the sky. Next I make a deep decoction of Nettle & Dandelion, as both of these herbs are rich in Iron. I then add the reduced infusion, organic red wine, a mixture of tinctures and fresh lemon juice in to the pot. It's a potent and delicious recipe, that not only builds your iron stores but also supports the gut and intestines, where the iron is absorbed...meaning no constipation like conventional iron supplements.

Blood contains our life force, the river of life. Blood is considered to be a tissue, the only one in the body that is permanently in liquid form. Our red blood cells contain hemoglobin, which is a globular protein bound to four molecules of haem. Each ring-shaped haem carries an atom of iron at its centre. These iron molecules bind to oxygen. One red blood cell carries around a billion oxygen molecules. You can see how breathlessness & dizziness can be symptoms of iron deficiency.
Iron-deficiency anaemia is the most common deficiency disease in the world. Roughly 25% of adults are deficient.

Nettles are the warriors of the herbal world, providing strength & resilience to those who are affected by burn-out, stress, fatigue, mineral deficiency & dis~ease. They help you to establish positive boundaries for yourself. They balance, nourish & build you back up, helping you to remember your own inner warrior. Nettles work directly on the blood, both cleansing it as an alterative & building it as a nutritive.

This is a tonic I make all year round. You can find it on my website, linked in my profile.

It's been a while since I've posted here! Being a mama to 3 has taken on a whole new level of business 🌀 I hope you've all had a wonderful summer and still managed to connect with nature between the downpours 💚🌿

In May I trained with the wonderful Mel, to become a Junior Herbalist leader. I'll be starting classes this coming Tuesday Lodge in Longridge, and I literally can not wait...so expect to see more of me as I share the journey with plants & the best kind of students, throughout the year. I have a class of 10+ students starting at 12.15pm and a class of 7-10 year olds starting at 2pm. There are still a few spaces, if anyone wants to deep dive into a fully immersive Junior Herbalist Club with me.

We make a mixed range of things. In week one, we focus on Lavender, so the children make lavender lemonade, lavender bags & lavender scented sugar. In week 3, we learn about acids & alkalis, pH scale & chemical reactions, then we make bath bombs. We also make infusions, oils, lip balms, creams, oxymels etc... We go out on a herb walk each session, to connect with nature and meet the plants growing that month.

The aim of JHC is to let children learn about the healing and medicinal plants all around them, in a safe & supervised environment, whilst covertly incorporating core subjects including English, Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Botany, Latin, Cookery, as well as helping children to gain in confidence, improve fine motor control and develop a new skill set. At the end of each session the children are given a worksheet to complete so they develop a portfolio of learning.

The course is also supported by the National Institute of Medical Herbalists, and each child gets a certificate at the end of the year.

I am so excited for this new adventure. Get in touch if you'd like more info...

Green blessings, Zoé 💚🌿
