“I don’t recognise my body anymore.”
That’s something I hear from so many women over 40.
You haven’t suddenly become lazy.
You’re not lacking willpower.
And you definitely haven’t “let yourself go.”
What’s often happening behind the scenes is hormonal change — and one of the biggest influences is cortisol, your stress hormone.
At this stage of life, we’re often juggling more than ever:
Work. Family. Responsibilities. Perimenopause. Less sleep.
When stress stays high for too long, cortisol stays high too — and that can make your body hold onto weight, especially around the middle. It can increase cravings, disturb sleep, and make fat loss feel harder than it used to.
It can feel like your body has turned against you.
But here’s the hopeful part.
Cortisol isn’t something you’re stuck with.
You can gently lower it — naturally.
One of the simplest, most effective ways?
Walking outdoors.
Not intense workouts.
Not punishing cardio.
Not “earning” your food.
Just stepping outside. Breathing fresh air. Moving your body in a calm, steady way.
Outdoor walking helps:
• Settle your nervous system
• Improve blood sugar balance
• Reduce stress hormone levels
• Lift your mood
• Support healthy fat metabolism
Sometimes the most powerful changes aren’t extreme — they’re consistent and kind.
If you’ve been feeling frustrated with your body lately, please know this:
Your body isn’t failing you.
It’s responding to stress.
And often, the solution starts with something as simple as a walk 🌿
My favourite part of the day is first thing, walking the dog with my audio book and the birds tweeting around me
