Interesting Zoom meeting today organised by the General Osteopathic Council to get feedback from the profession about Section 32 of the Osteopaths Act 1993.
Section 32 of the Osteopaths Act is about the title "Osteopath". Only individuals who are registered with the GOsC can call themselves Osteopaths.
However there has been increasing incidence of manual therapists claiming to offer "osteopathic techniques" or "osteopathic mobilisation" or "osteopathic massage".
The only therapists that should be allowed to describe their treatment techniques as "osteopathic" are those who are qualified and registered osteopaths.
I am reaching out to my osteopathic colleagues to take part in the consultation with the GOsC to strength the protection of the title "Osteopath" to include the description of the techniques that may be used by other therapists who do not have the right to describe their techniques as "osteopathic" when they are not registered with the GOsC.
