💗 Organ Donation Week – 16th–22nd September 💗
Let’s talk about saving lives.

This Organ Donation Week, we’re encouraging everyone in our community to have the conversation that could one day save someone’s life.

🫁 One donor can save or improve up to 9 lives – but only if they’ve shared their decision with their family.

👂 Did you know?
Even though organ donation is now an opt-out system in England, it’s still so important to tell your loved ones what you want. Your family will always be involved before donation goes ahead.

💬 Talk about it. Register your decision. Tell your family.

You can register your organ donation decision here 👉 https://www.organdonation.nhs.uk/register-your-decision/

At Avenham Surgery, we’re proud to support Organ Donation Week and the lifesaving power of one simple conversation.

📣 Please share to help raise awareness.
Together, we can make a life-changing difference.

🌍 World Sepsis Day – 13th September 🩺

Today is World Sepsis Day, a vital reminder that sepsis is a medical emergency. It affects millions worldwide and can become life-threatening in a matter of hours if not recognised and treated quickly.

🔴 What is Sepsis?
Sepsis is the body’s overwhelming response to an infection, which can lead to tissue damage, organ failure, and even death.

🔍 Spot the Signs – Think “SEPSIS”:
✅ Slurred speech or confusion
✅ Extreme shivering or muscle pain
✅ Passing no urine (in a day)
✅ Severe breathlessness
✅ It feels like you’re going to die
✅ Skin mottled or discoloured

🚨 If you or a loved one has an infection and shows any of these signs, seek medical help immediately. Early recognition saves lives.

At Avenham Surgery, we’re committed to improving awareness and early diagnosis of sepsis. Together, we can make a difference.

💬 Feel free to share this post and help spread the word.

❤️ Heart Failure Awareness – Think B.E.A.T. ❤️
Brought to you by the Pumping Marvellous Foundation – putting heart failure in focus.

At Avenham Surgery, we’re supporting the Think B.E.A.T. campaign to help our community spot the early signs of heart failure.

🫀 What is Heart Failure?
It doesn’t mean your heart has stopped – it means your heart isn’t pumping blood as well as it should. Early diagnosis and treatment can make a huge difference.

💡 Think B.E.A.T. – Know the Signs:
🔹 B – Breathlessness
🔹 E – Exhaustion
🔹 A – Ankle Swelling
🔹 T – Time to speak to your GP

If you are aged 40 or over come along and have a healthy heat check at Preston North End, Sir Tom Finney Way, Preston PR1 6RU!

🫁 September is Pulmonary Fibrosis Awareness Month 🫁

Pulmonary fibrosis is a serious lung disease that causes scarring of the lungs, making it increasingly difficult to breathe over time. It can affect anyone, but early symptoms—like a persistent dry cough or breathlessness—are often mistaken for other conditions.

🩺 Pop Quiz: What’s silent, sneaky, and super important to check?
A) The Wi-Fi
B) Your neighbour’s cat
C) Your blood pressure! ✅

High blood pressure (aka the “silent killer”) often has no symptoms – but left unchecked, it can lead to serious issues like heart attacks or strokes. 😳

The good news? A quick, painless blood pressure check at your local GP surgery takes just a few minutes — and could literally save your life.

💡 Top Tip: If you’re over 40, it's a good idea to check your blood pressure at least once a year. Don’t wait for a sign — come get peace of mind!

📅 Call us or pop in to book your check - alternatively we can make a referral to the pharmacy – your heart will thank you 💓
