How did this become okay?? 🤷‍♀️😥

How can something this damaging be normalised by so many every single day.

I actually made this post a while ago as a way to vent my anger after it happened, but as my beautiful wonderful daughter turned 13 this weekend, it felt like the right time to post it.

I am so terrified for her and all the other impressionable young people (and sadly adults too) that will be told they are not good enough and that their face needs to change to be seen as worthy and beautiful. It’s happening to children a lot younger too and it’s heartbreaking.

Talk to your children about the nasty little robot and the unrealistic beauty standards and expectations that are put on us all in this age of AI. It’s so important we normalise that this ISN’T Normal 😩

Has anyone else experienced this? I would love to know your story to maybe put something together to share how this affects us all and the real impact.

Please share, this is so important 🙌🏻

This is what you want to see 👀

Forget all the fake stuff that makes you feel like p**p, let’s get real.

In my role as a therapist, I spend a lot of time working through unrealistic expectations with my clients. If sharing my ‘normal’ life helps you manage your expectations just a little, that’s enough for me.

I was so run down as I approached my week off. I needed peace, rest and space. I gave that to myself and had one of the quietest breaks I think I’ve ever had. It was beautifully dull 🤣

Drop a heart if this made you feel better about your own downtime 🤍🤍

Boundaries can change your life 🙌🏻🤍

‼️ A LOT of people get it wrong though, they think boundaries are something you set to manage other peoples behaviour…. That doesn’t work, you can’t control other peoples behaviour.

Boundaries are TO MANAGE YOUR OWN BEHAVIOUR and set guidelines of how you want your life to look and how you will achieve this. Boundaries are for YOU.

This might be unexpected and not what you have often considered to be a boundary. I hope the examples of some of my clients life changing boundaries has been helpful.

Did any of these boundaries surprise you? ⬇️

It might seem controversial, but it’s true 🙌🏻

No amount of therapy will change your life if you neglect your physical health….

You need to look after your body and your mind - one is just as important as the other.

How to keep your body healthy whilst looking after your mind:

👟 Regular movement and exercise.
🍎 Eating a healthy balanced diet (you can still have treats)
☮️ Rest and recovery when it’s needed.
😴 Getting enough sleep (7-9 hours recommended)
🍷 Limit your alcohol intake (if you struggle with anxiety or depression cut it out completely, it’s a downer).

I’ve said this before, and I will keep saying it: You have to look after BOTH. Just doing the therapy IS NOT ENOUGH.

Which one of these things do you struggle with the most?

Let me know in the comments and I will work on some specific content to help you with this.

Tomorrow starts today 🤍

🍁🍂This is why I choose to work weekends…

1. It works for me.

Those of you who have seen previous posts will know that loneliness has been a running theme in my life. I feel it deeply, and I think it will always be a familiar feeling to me. I understand why I feel this way, and I have coping strategies to remind me that this feeling will pass and I need to challenge these thoughts when they arise (luckily I’m a therapist and I can do this quite easily now)

What I do recognise is I feel this way a lot more at weekends. People are busy, they always seem to have plans that are way more exciting than mine, and as my daughter gets older, she has her own plans that don’t involve me anymore.

Working on a Saturday gives me purpose, a reason to get up and move my body, and leaves me feeling fulfilled enough to enjoy a more peaceful and slower pace of life in the afternoon.

I enjoy a simple life and this works for me.

2. It works for my clients.

So many clients ask me if I hold sessions at the weekend, and they’re always surprised when I say yes, and some evenings!

Counselling should be accessible for everyone, from the 9-5ers to the parents who only have childcare at the weekend. I’m proud I can offer that flexibility, and meet the needs of those brave enough to reach out for help.

A lot of people can’t understand why I work weekends, but for me it’s a no brainer 🥰

💛 If you prefer to have your therapy sessions indoors, don’t worry, you can still embrace the healing power of nature outside of your sessions.

However you choose to access support, the great outdoors will always be there waiting for you to help you process difficult thoughts and feelings..

I always encourage my clients to get outdoors and introduce movement and nature into their lives. The great thing about nature, it’s always ready when you are and always there when you need it.

Some wonderful feedback from a client about how they have managed to combine online therapy with walking in their own time 🤍

Sharing a part of my journey 💫

A part of my journey that felt insignificant at the time, but actually was the start of my love of walking, eventually being the reason I integrated movement and being in nature into my therapy sessions.

Therapy and walking have been life changing for me, they have given me independence, space to grow and continue to be my biggest ally in keeping myself well.

Vulnerability is never easy to share… but I hope it helps you if you have ever caught yourself feeling the same way.

I have spaces available for outdoor and online therapy ☺️ please get in touch if you are struggling.

If your not here for the therapy but appreciate the content: follow along ☺️

I hope this helps you feel less alone ❤️

🤍 movement interrupts the belief that you are stuck 🤍

It acts as physical representation of change, freedom and having the ability to do things differently.

You are not superglued to the floor, you can move towards what you want and what you need. It starts with small steps 🙌🏻

It’s all about the weather as an outdoor therapist!☔️🌦️

“We don’t choose the weather in which we heal, but we show up regardless”

You can guarantee come wind, rain or shine I’ll be ready - and I’ll always make the wrong decision when it comes to taking a brolly or not 🙈☔️

Can you relate, share this with your outdoor therapist friend who shows up no matter what ❤️

In my experience as a therapist, people watching can really help with feelings of low self esteem and inferiority - as long as you’re watching the right people ✅👀

That might sound bonkers but hear me out…

Observing people in real life, in real time, unedited and unpolished can feel so refreshing. It serves as a welcome reminder that no one is perfect and can help you move towards finding acceptance with your own perceived imperfections. I see real people when I’m out walking, and I connect with them in solidarity.

That moment frozen in time online, it’s not real. Chances are it’s been filtered, edited and staged. The clothes have been gifted and the behind the scenes probably looked very different to the photo.

Find your people, find your window to self acceptance.

And if all else fails, you will have had a lovely walk and moved your body, and that’s always going to benefit your mind 👌🏻🌿.

A simple reminder that with acceptance comes change.

This belief is a core foundation in the theory of Person Centred (client led) Counselling, described beautifully in this famous quote from the big man himself Carl Rogers:

“The curious paradox is that when I accept myself as I am, then I can change”

We need to know ourselves fully, accepting all parts of our human self before we can embark on change.

Rogers believed we are all our own expert and as humans we know what we need - sometimes you just need a little outside help to find it 🌱

Have you heard this quote before? What do you think? I’d love to hear your thoughts 🤔💭
