Would you like to offer your clients the opportunity to work outdoors in nature, but feel unsure of where to start? If this sounds familiar you are not alone!

🌿 I have been contacted by countless therapists over the years, often expressing the same fears and uncertainties about taking their client work outdoors.
It is with this in mind that I have designed this comprehensive training course, in which I share my knowledge of outdoor therapy and best practice. The course covers all the practicalities of working safely and ethically outside with clients, so you have the confidence and skills to get started.

It’s okay to ignore the latest trends 🙌🏻💫

What are you choosing to ignore this year? I’m curious ☺️

Simplicity is the best way to protect your peace. Sometimes we just need to say no thank you, that’s not for me 💕

As a therapist, I will always champion trying new things and introducing small changes to your lifestyle if it has a positive impact… but honestly, most of the stuff you see on socials is utter rubbish and does nothing to keep your mind and body healthy.

Keep it simple and focus on what really makes a difference:

😴 Sleep
🍓 Healthy balanced diet (fresh food)
🌿 Time outdoors
🏋️‍♀️ Movement and exercise
👭 Social connections
🎳 Hobbies and interests
📖 Self reflection and growth

Honestly, give yourself a break and don’t even attempt the cottage cheese muffins 🤢🤢

Life is a journey 🌿💫

A journey that is full of twists and turns.

💫 It is never too late to choose a different path and completely change the direction in which you were heading. We evolve so much as humans as we grow, age and experience the world. It would be crazy to think we only have one path that was decided upon at school or our early years 🤯💥

What was right for us then isn’t necessarily going to be right for us now.

I never believed I would go to university, never mind doing it in my thirties, with a small child and a full time job! But I knew I needed more, I wanted to change my life, so it was hard and inconvenient at times… but I did it 🙌🏻

Who knows where I’ll be in 10 years, but for now I am exactly where I need to be. Helping others in the arms of nature 🌿

It’s never too late to go back into education or learn a new skill.

If you are a therapist or therapist in training, I have put together an introductory course to walk and talk therapy, it covers all the need to know stuff that I had to figure out myself…the hard way!!

💫 THIS IS MY PLACE 💫

In honour of Children’s Mental Health Week (9th-15th Feb) I thought I would share some tips on how taking your conversations outdoors can be helpful when trying to engage with your kids.

This year’s theme ‘THIS IS MY PLACE’ focuses on creating environments where children feel safe, valued, and connected to those around them. For a lot of children they often don’t feel seen or heard in schools or at home, so providing them with a different space to talk and express themselves can be life changing.

It is estimated roughly 1 in 5 young people struggle with mental health disorders, however, all children and young people will need help and support at some point in their life to navigate difficult experiences. Being able to talk these things through can stop the situation escalating.

As a therapist that works with adults and children, I often hear both sides of the story. A parent that doesn’t know what to do, and a child that struggles to open up. Being outdoors and in a calming environment can help 🌿

We all need to feel connection sometimes 🌿

Friendships grow and change as you get older, and I’ve been lucky enough to have some dear friends that have been a part of my life for a very long time.

I even get them hiking up hills every now and again!

My wonderful friend and fellow therapist spent the morning with me at Beacon Fell and it was just what we both needed. She has a wonderful way of helping me feel grounded and brings so much warmth every time we meet.

She is a much needed and much appreciated part of my life. Sometimes we just need to strip things back and return to simplicity. A coffee, a walk, or a message asking how they are.

6 phrases to validate your self worth 💫

As a nation, we are exhausted. High expectations, constant comparison to others and a fast paced world that glamorises burnout. We feel like we have to have it all and we need to be doing it all.

A recent survey highlighted the need for change in how we view roles and responsibilities.

❗️71% of mothers feel overwhelmed and overworked.
❗️47% suffer from mental health issues including burnout and anxiety because they are conditioned to believe they just have to crack on.

I hear this all too often with my clients, and it’s dads too. The self imposed ‘perfectionists’ that are trying to do everything for everyone and they can’t keep up. It’s constant and it’s damaging. Life needs to slow down, but it can’t slow down until you let yourself stop, say no and accept that you need to rest and look after yourself.

It’s not selfish or weak: it’s essential and necessary.

These 6 phrases repeated daily can help you to approach life with more compassion and respect for your needs as a person in a demanding world.

😬 When going outside creates fear and anxiety…

Lacing up my trainers and stepping out of the front door is a daily ritual I often take for granted.

I had a wonderful chat with Amy last week and it was a stark reminder that for a lot of people, the thought of leaving their house can be a scary and overwhelming experience.

We spoke about exposure therapy and taking really small steps to help with the fear or avoidance of going outside. As an outdoor therapist, I thought about how I would want to introduce people to the outdoors and nature, through little things they can do at home.

House plants and essential oils are my favourite way to bring the outdoors in. Do you have any favourite scents or ideas on how to connect with nature at home? Let me know in the comments ⬇️
