As we all enjoy the spooky fun tonight, please remember to only knock on doors where a pumpkin or Halloween decoration is displayed π this shows that the household is happy to take part in trick-or-treating.
Some of our neighbours may be older or living with dementia, and unexpected visitors or costumes can sometimes be confusing or distressing. π
If youβre supporting a loved one living with dementia this Halloween, here are a few helpful tips:
π―οΈ Keep lights on and curtains closed to reduce confusion.
π If doorbells may cause anxiety, consider leaving a friendly sign asking trick-or-treaters not to knock.
π» Offer reassurance if your loved one is startled, explain itβs just Halloween fun.
πΊ Play calming music or a favourite TV show to help distract from outside noise.
π¬ Let neighbours know if the evening might be unsettling, so they can help keep things peaceful nearby.
Letβs make Halloween enjoyable and comfortable for everyone in our community, a little mindfulness goes a long way. π
