Over the years, I’ve truly appreciated the support and interest shown here on handsthatmassage. This page has been part of my journey and I'm so thankful to everyone who has followed along 🙏

🌿 Understanding Erythema vs. Petechiae After Bodywork 🌿
Visual Guide to Post-Treatment Skin Reactions👇

🩸 PETECHIAE (Image 1)

What it is: Tiny red or purple dots from minor capillary rupture

Cause: Microtrauma from scraping or deeper techniques (e.g., Gua Sha, IASTM)

Looks like: Rash-like clusters of pinpoint spots

Common In: Gua Sha, IASTM, muscle scraping

Pain Level: Mild discomfort or soreness next day
Purpose: Encourages healing, breaks up fascial restrictions

Client Reaction: May look alarming but it’s safe and intentional

Fades In: 2–5 days

🟥 ERYTHEMA (Image 2)

What it is: Even redness from increased blood flow

Cause: Friction, heat, or stimulation (e.g., massage)

Looks like: Diffuse pink or red area, like a sunburn
Common In: General or sports massage

Pain Level: Painless
Purpose: Encourages circulation and tissue warmth

Client Reaction: Warm, relaxing feeling
Fades In: 2–5 days
