ALCOHOL - is it really worth all the damage it does to us? You can turn a blind eye but your body can't. Why are the majority of us are poisoning ourselves on a weekly basis? Why is it advertised and encouraged? Why is it shown on nearly every TV programme and film? This toxic carcinogenic poison is being promoted as a normal drink to have in our life. We really have to question the reasons for this when it is so damaging to our brain and body.
One of the best things I did was stop drinking poison. I stopped after I read my brothers autopsy report which showed the damage done to his heart from alcohol. Since stopping the poison I feel so much better. I can think more clearly, I feel less anxious and depressed, I can face my traumas and life challenges with much more strength and I have become more resilient in the process. My face looks healthier, no more puffy eyes or dark under my eyes and my skin is no longer aging rapidly. I have more energy. I have more peace inside of me. And most importantly I'm loving myself for the first time in years and feeling more myself than ever before.
Over time, regular alcohol consumption can - and usually will - lead to chronic diseases and other serious problems.
Alcohol and the heart:
Regular binge drinking (just 4 drinks or more in one session!) and heavy drinking (8 or more) can cause heart disease, including cardiomyopathy, irregular heartbeat, high blood pressure, stroke and permanent scarring of the heart. It can change the shape of your heart meaning the electrical impulses cannot fire effectively leading to unpleasant palpitations, or much worse the heart stopping.
Alcohol and the brain:
Alcohol can affect several parts of the brain, but, in general, contracts brain tissues, destroys brain cells, as well as depresses the central nervous system. Regular drinking over a prolonged period of time can cause serious problems with cognition and memory. Alcohol interacts with the brain receptors, interfering with the communication between nerve cells, and suppressing excitatory nerve pathway activity
Alcohol and hormones:
Hormones act as chemical messengers to control and coordinate the functions of the body's tissues and organs. Regularly drinking alcohol impairs the functioning of the glands that release hormones which can result in medical problems such as hunger and digestion signals, excessive cortisol production, osteoporosis, and in women, cessation of menstruation, early menopause and irregular menstrual cycles
Alcohol and toxicity if the body:
Drinking alcoholic beverages of any kind, including wine, beer, and liquor, can contribute to cancers of the mouth and throat, larynx (voice box), esophagus, colon and re**um, liver, and breast (in women). This is because alcohol is carcinogenic. For some cancers, even less than one drink in a day can increase risk. The less alcohol a person drinks, the lower the risk of these types of cancer.
Alcohol and accidents:
Drinking too much alcohol increases the risk of injuries, including fatal injuries.
