Some councils are no longer sending Blue Badge renewal reminders.
Many Blue Badge holders expect a letter before their badge expires, but several councils now say it is the holder’s responsibility to keep track of the expiry date.
Because a Blue Badge usually lasts three years, it is easy to forget when renewal is due. If the badge expires, it cannot be used and this can lead to a parking ticket.
Another important point is that renewal is not automatic. Each renewal is treated as a new application and the council reassesses eligibility.
If you or a family member has a Blue Badge, it may be worth checking the expiry date now.
