💚 Mental Health Awareness Week: 11–17 May 💚

This year’s theme is “Take action” — a reminder that small steps can make a real difference to our mental health, whether that’s talking to someone, getting outside, resting, asking for help, or checking in on someone else.

Mental health matters every week of the year, but this week is a good opportunity to remind our Southport community that support is available.

Local support includes:

🌿 NHS Sefton Talking Therapies
Free, confidential support for people aged 16+ registered with a Sefton GP.
Call 0300 303 2708 or self-refer online.

🌿 Kooth
Free online mental health and wellbeing support for young people in Sefton aged 11–25.

🌿 Southport Crisis Café
For adults aged 18+ who need out-of-hours mental health support.
Open Friday to Sunday, 5pm–11pm at Alchemy, 3 Mornington Road, Southport, PR9 0TS.
Call 0300 323 0197.

🌿 Urgent mental health support
Call NHS 111 and select the mental health option.
In an emergency or if someone is in immediate danger, call 999.

Please don’t struggle alone. Reaching out is a positive first step — and support is there when you need it. 🫶❤️

People First has created a new series of short, easy-to-understand videos about cancer screening.

The videos explain why screening is important, what to expect at appointments, and how early detection can help keep people healthy. They are especially helpful for people with learning disabilities, but useful for anyone who feels unsure about screening.

Please watch and share to help reduce anxiety and support informed choices.

Before ordering your repeat prescription, please take a moment to check what medicines you already have at home.

Only ordering what you need helps reduce waste, supports the NHS, and helps make sure medicines are available for everyone who needs them.

A few helpful reminders:

• only order the items you need
• keep your medicines in one place
• use one pack at a time
• check your supplies about a week before your prescription is due, especially before bank holidays

If you need any advice or support, your pharmacy team will be happy to help. Please remember to return any unused or expired medicines, including inhalers, to your pharmacy for safe disposal.

Ainsdale Medical Centre is proud to support Jess’s Rule, an important patient safety initiative that helps improve earlier diagnosis and better outcomes.

It encourages GP teams to reflect, review and rethink when a patient presents three times with the same or worsening symptoms. This may mean offering continuity, arranging a face-to-face review, seeking a colleague’s opinion, or considering further tests or referral.

Jess’s Rule is a reminder that patients know their own bodies best. Listening carefully, taking concerns seriously, and acting when symptoms persist can help reduce missed or delayed diagnoses.

If your symptoms are not improving or are getting worse, please let us know — your voice matters.
