Is it a sign of low stomach acid? Symptom 3: trouble with meat 🍖🤔

Do you struggle to eat meat or find yourself avoiding it? Low stomach acid might be the reason! Proteins, especially in meats, are tougher to digest without sufficient stomach acid to break them down properly.

Tip: Try slow-cooking your meats—it can make them easier to digest and gentler on your stomach. 🌱

Is it a sign of low stomach acid? Symptom 2: Nausea from medications or supplements 💊🤢

Do you feel nauseous after taking medication or supplements? This could be linked to low stomach acid. When stomach acid is low, digestion slows down, causing medications or supplements to sit in the stomach longer and trigger nausea.

Tip: If possible, try taking them mid-meal to help ease digestion (unless your medication needs to be taken on an empty stomach). ✨

Is it a sign of low stomach acid? Symptom 1: Undigested food 🍽️

Have you ever noticed undigested food in your poo? While seeing things like sweetcorn kernels can be common, if other food residues appear, it could be a sign that you’re not producing enough stomach acid to fully break down your food. 🤔

Low stomach acid means digestion isn’t as thorough, leaving food less processed by the time it reaches the intestines.

Stay tuned as I share more signs of low stomach acid in upcoming posts!

Did you know that reflux is often linked to too little stomach acid rather than too much? 🤔

This is often linked to stress or eating on the go, as these habits can affect digestion and reduce stomach acid production.

When stomach acid is low, the lower oesophageal sphincter (the muscle that keeps acid in the stomach) may not close properly, allowing acid to flow back into the oesophagus.

This can cause symptoms like heartburn 🔥, a sour taste in the mouth 😖, or even a sore throat and cough. Over the next few posts, I’ll be sharing more signs of low stomach acid—how many do you recognise? 👀

Stay tuned to learn more about supporting your digestive health! ✨

Did you know that chewing your food thoroughly can make a huge difference in how your body digests it? 🥦

The more you chew, the easier it is for your digestive system to break down the food, helping you absorb nutrients more effectively. 🍎

Here’s a tip: Try putting your knife and fork down between bites.

This small action helps you slow down, enjoy your meal, and chew each bite properly, giving your stomach a little extra help!

How to better manage gastroparesis?

🥗 Focus on a nutrient-rich diet and work with someone knowledgeable about gastroparesis.
🍽️ Eat small, frequent meals that are low in fat and fibre—high-fat, high-fibre foods can slow digestion.
🧘‍♀️ Manage stress, as it affects digestion; try to eat in a calm, relaxed environment.
🌱 Chew your food thoroughly to aid stomach processing and gastric emptying.
💧 Stay hydrated to support digestion.
💉 If diabetic, keep blood sugar levels steady.
🚫 Limit alcohol and avoid smoking, as both can delay stomach emptying.
🏃‍♀️ Include regular exercise if possible—it can help with overall digestion.

Which medications affect gastroparesis? 💊

Certain medications can slow gastric emptying and worsen gastroparesis symptoms, including:

💉 Op**te painkillers (like codeine and morphine)
💥 Anti-spasmodics (used for IBS)
❤️ Calcium channel blockers (for heart conditions)
🧠 Some antidepressants
💉 Certain diabetes medications
🌡️ PPIs, which may delay gastric emptying for some

Be sure to discuss your medications with your doctor or pharmacist to see if they could be contributing to your symptoms.

What causes gastroparesis? 🤔

While the exact cause of gastroparesis isn’t fully understood, it can sometimes develop after surgeries, particularly those involving the oesophagus, abdomen, or procedures that may affect the vagus nerve.

It’s also linked to conditions that impact the nervous system or connective tissues, such as multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, and more.

Additionally, gastroparesis is a common complication of long-term diabetes, affecting approximately 25% of people with the condition. 💉🧠

It can lead to dehydration, blood sugar issues, nausea, vomiting, and food blockages 🚫.

Stay tuned, as I’ll be sharing tips on how to manage this condition in an upcoming post.
