Valentine’s Day often focuses on love for others.

But in therapy, we often discover something important —
the relationship that most needs care is the one you have with yourself ❤️

Anxiety thrives on pressure.
On self-criticism.
On the belief that you should be coping “better.”

Self-care isn’t bubble baths and candles (though those are lovely).
It’s boundaries.
It’s rest without guilt.
It’s noticing anxious thoughts without believing all of them.
It’s speaking to yourself with the same compassion you offer everyone else.

Finding calm in the middle of anxiety isn’t about “fighting” the feeling—it’s about learning how to soothe your nervous system. 🌿

In Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), we look at how our brains are wired through three emotional systems. When anxiety takes over, our Threat System is on high alert, looking for danger. To find balance, we need to intentionally activate our Soothe System.

The 3 Systems of the Mind:
* The Threat System: Designed for protection (Anxiety, Anger, Fear).
* The Drive System: Designed for achieving and consuming (Excitement, Motivation).
* The Soothing System: Designed for peace, safety, and connection.
* When your Threat System is screaming, try these 3 ways to tap into your Soothe System:
* Rhythmic Breathing: Slow, steady breaths into the belly tell your brain you are safe right now.
* Safe Place Imagery: Closing your eyes and visualizing a place where you feel completely protected and warm.
* Kind Inner Voice: Replacing “Why am I like this?” with “This is a hard moment, and I am here for myself.”

You don’t have to navigate the storm alone. Learning to be compassionate toward your own mind is a skill we can build together.
