DOMS vs Injury: know what your body is really telling you 💡

💪 We’ve all felt it… that post-workout ache that makes stairs feel like a challenge. But is it just DOMS (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness) or could it actually be an injury? 🤔

Here’s how to tell the difference ⬇️
👉 DOMS = soreness that appears 12–72 hours after exercise, caused by muscle fibres repairing and adapting. It’s temporary, improves with time, and is part of getting stronger.
👉 Injury = sharp, sudden or worsening pain, often with swelling, bruising or instability. This needs proper assessment and treatment.

How my journey here began 🤯

I’ve always had a passion helping others perform the best they can.

This came from years of playing rugby and being that teammate who strapped ankles, gave warm-up tips, and preached recovery before I even knew it would become my job.

10+ years of playing came with injuries: concussions, dislocations, ligament damage… the list goes on.

I often knew how to recover

like many athletes, I ignored the advice just to stay on the pitch.

That experience shaped everything I do now.

From school BTECs to college diplomas, then uni for Sports Therapy

even though I didn’t finish, the fire stayed lit.

I trained, qualified as a Sports Massage Therapist, and opened my own clinic.

Now I help people from all walks of life move pain-free, recover properly, and stay active – the right way.

The goal?

Grow the business, and help as many people as possible to move and feel their best.

Regardless of their occupation or activity levels, everyone has some form of condition that my expertise can help treat.

Time to show some love to your obliques — the core muscles responsible for rotation, side bending, and stabilising your spine 💥

🧠 Anatomy 101:
• External obliques – outer layer, runs diagonally downward
• Internal obliques – underneath, runs diagonally upward
Together, they help twist, bend, and support your trunk!

🎯 Primary Function:
• Trunk rotation
• Lateral flexion (side bending)
• Core stabilisation and posture control

⚠️ Common Issues:
• Muscle strains (especially from twisting under load)
• Weak obliques = poor spinal support
• Imbalances can affect posture and performance

🧘 Maintenance Tips:
• Strengthen both sides equally
• Don’t skip rotational training
• Include core work beyond just crunches!

🧍‍♂️ Stretch Examples:
• Static: Standing side bend stretch
• Dynamic: Trunk rotations
• Partner PNF: Side bend stretch with partner resistance

🏋️‍♂️ Top Strengthening Exercises:
• Side planks
• Russian twists
• Cable or banded woodchops

Stronger obliques = better movement, balance, and injury prevention.

Say hello to your shoulder’s MVP — the deltoid muscle!

🧠 Anatomy Breakdown:
The deltoid has 3 heads:
• Anterior (front) – lifts the arm forward
• Lateral (middle) – lifts the arm to the side
• Posterior (rear) – helps extend and rotate the arm backward

🎯 Main Functions: Shoulder abduction, flexion, extension, and rotation — basically, almost every upper-body move!

⚠️ Common Issues:
• Overuse injuries
• Impingement
• Deltoid strains (often from poor technique or overload)

🧘 Maintenance Tips:
• Warm up shoulders before workouts
• Mobilise the shoulder joint regularly
• Watch your posture (especially if you sit a lot!)

🧍‍♂️ Stretch Examples:
• Static: Cross-body shoulder stretch
• Dynamic: Arm circles
• Partner PNF: Shoulder flexion with partner resistance

🏋️‍♀️ Top Exercises to Build Delts:
• Lateral raises
