Hawayo Hiromi Kawamura Takata (24 December 1900 – 11 December 1980)

45 years ago today, Hawayo Takata passed through the veil separating this world and that of the ancestors, less than two weeks before her eightieth birthday.

45 years earlier (11 December 1935), Takata was attending her second day of Reiki training at the Hayashi Reiki Kenkyūkai, learning the spiritual therapy to which she would then dedicate her life.

Her 45 years of devotion to Reiki transformed the practice from an obscure Japanese healing art to one poised to become a truly global phenomenon with millions of practitioners worldwide.

An appreciation of beauty tends to be spontaneous with the right conditions coming together to bring about such an experience of wonder and awe that it feels like it is being gifted to us.

Catching the sun setting in all its majesty as we crest the brow of a hill, or being witness to that perfect light during a storm has the power to leave us feeling uplifted and energised.

These spectacles big or small are not just a feast for our senses but carry a divine signature that reaches in and touches the very depth of our being.

For these experiences to happen there is nothing we need do. An appreciation of beauty is a natural tendency but we can if we choose become more concious of this inate ability. We can actively practice appreciating beauty whenever we are out and feeling lack lustre or find a need to revitalise our optimism.

When we engage with the present moment and are curious to what reveals itself in all its detail and perfection the active thinking self retreats and with our appreciation of beauty comes a felt sense of joy and a gratitude that opens the heart and rejuvenates our souls.

For those of us who work as holistic therapists, counsellor's or energy worker's self care is an important step towards managing and counteracting burnout. Appreciating beauty is just one way to refill our cups.

Healing does not have to be complicated and yet we make it so thus here lies the crux of the problem. When we employ only the mind in healing we end up searching the minds endless corridors for solutions and answers. True Healing requires us to engage the heart of our being and to allow it to unfurl. To bare naked our emotional self without judgement is an act of self love & to open our hearts to the realisation that we are profoundly loved can initiate an inpouring that transmutes all in its path.
