HAPPY NEW YEAR to all you gorgeous ladies! May this year be a year of new beginnings, new adventures, new goals and achievements and a NEW YOU!

With a new year comes new beginnings and new changes! So why not start today by putting you first everyday, even if it is just for 5min each day, put you first somewhere in your day. Self-care is so important and it is overlooked by us all... try and put 5min aside each morning to stretch, or 5min in your busy day to just breathe or instead of taking a shower before bed, try a nice warm bath with Mg salts and/or lavender oil to relax your body and mind after a tiresome day or week! Any time where your focus is on YOU is a start, that can be gradually added to and adapted to, to suit your daily needs.

Have you wondered why, when it comes to the colder months, you start to get pain and discomfort in your upper back and neck area? I bet you never thought that wearing heavy jackets and thick scarves could be he cause for this new found discomfort?
Wearing thick scarves and heavy jackets can cause your shoulders to pull up towards your ears and your head to tilt forward. This is not a natural position for your muscles and joints which puts tension and strain on them. Without realising it, your body tries to compensate for the changes and over time this can lead to lasting aches and pains and a weak posture. So it is important to be conscious of your posture and to remove thick scarves and heavy jackets as soon as you climb into your car or are back inside and out of the cold.
You can also adopt a stretching habits to keep your neck, shoulders and upper back relaxed and flexible to help maintain a good head and shoulder position and to relieve any pain and discomfort. Gently rolling your neck and shoulders as soon as you have removed your heavy clothing can also aid in maintaining a strong posture.
And of course booking a regular deep tissue massage is a great way to release and relax muscle tension on a deeper level! Which in turn will aid in correcting "head-forward" posture and any secondary effects such as tension headaches.

Taking care of your body is under rated! Having a self-care regime should be on your daily list- this is anything from taking a warm soak in the bath to having healthy eating habits, quiet time, taking yourself for a walk without any distractions or having a deep-tissue massage. When your underlying, tight bands of muscle fibres and pressure points are released, your body can experience a deeper sense of relaxation. This is not just a mental form of relaxation but also a muscular one. When we have tension in our muscles, we have tension in our mind without even realising it. Which is why it is important to have a deep connection with your body, so that when you are feeling sore or frustrated you can pin-point the underlying cause and get on top of it as soon as possible to not cause damage that takes longer to recover from. Did you know that you can damage muscle tissue by sitting at a desk for hours on end and not engaging in any form of exercise to get the body actively moving. When we don't stretch or move enough, the muscle fibres shorten causing tightness. When the fibres get too short, they are at risk of tearing by doing something they are not used to doing ie: lifting heavier objects, reaching for something on the other side of your desk or counter, jumping up to grab something that is only just out of your reach etc. A sign of tight muscles is discomfort and or pain. Another sign is muscular weakness- when you suddenly realise you can't do something that you were able to do a couple of weeks or months ago.To prevent this, start a gentle stretching program to help increase muscle strength and flexibility followed by a warm bath to relax the muscles. And get a deep tissue massage! Because a deep tissue massage targets the muscles that you can't target through stretching!

When it comes to our bodies, we over look how important it is to stretch! Stretching is one of the best ways to start or even end your day and it can take as little as 5minutes...

Not only does stretching help maintain muscle health by increasing the blood flow to our muscles, it increases muscle elasticity to give our body better flexibility and strengthens the muscles to provide stability. Stretching also aids in maintaining positive mental health.

Stretching is a great way to help get rid of aches, pains and discomforts found deep within our muscles that restrict movement and can be a leading cause of instability or loss of balance.

Aches and pains in our body that are caused by tight muscles also affect our mood and sometimes you aren't even aware that the grouchiness is because your body is fatigued and sore.

One of the best parts is that YOU get an increase in energy!! What a way to kick start your day!

Believe it or not, having a massage can dehydrate your body due to muscle waste product removal and the muscles having to work to do so. Water is essential post massage to replenish lost fluids during and after your massage. Having a glass of water after your massage will not only refresh you but will aid in flushing out the waste products removed from the muscle fibres during the massage. Your muscle work hard during a deep tissue massage and just as you would drink water during and after exercise, so you should before and after as massage!

And whilst massage does provide relaxation, not all give long-term or effective relief from muscle tension. However, a targeted and deep tissue massage does just that, it provides the body with long-term and effective relief from muscle tension and pain. A targeted and deep tissue massage aids in muscle recovery by removing waste products, stretching and manipulating the muscle fibres and releasing pressure points.
