Digital Healthcare at Elvington Medical Practice
A focus of the NHS plan over the next 10 years is to shift from 'analogue to digital' (Wes Streeting, Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, September 2024).
How are we doing this already at Elvington Medical Practice?
We use a variety of digital solutions to help us improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the care that we provide:
New patients can register at the practice online via this link. https://accurx.nhs.uk/patient-initiated/b82081
You can contact us online with a medical or administrative query via this link or through the NHS App (43% of requests for appointments came in online or via the NHS App between 1 January - 22 May 2025).
We send questionnaires relevant to your health and well being via text message or email. Completing these questionnaires may prevent the need to attend the surgery for an in person appointment with a member of our healthcare team. Responding to these messages allows us to ensure that we are managing your condition effectively. All information that you send us using our NHS approved providers is confidential. Our questionnaire response rate is currently 67%.
We have recently partnered with BookYourGP which is an automated recall system for patients who have chronic health conditions or who take medication that requires regular monitoring. It also helps us to be proactive in managing your wellbeing by identifying people who are eligible for vaccinations to prevent conditions such as pneumonia or shingles.
Login | Book Your GP
We are working with our Patient Participation Group to update our practice website.
How can you help us?
Have we got an update mobile number or email address for you? Let us know if you have a preferred method of how we contact you by following this link.
Help us to improve our questionnaire response rate - responding to our request for information may help us to free up appointments for those who need to be seen in person.
If you receive a notification from BookYourGP, please contact us to arrange the necessary appointment or blood test.

***Updated*** weight loss injections - Information for patients/the public
We have been informed by our ICB that a wraparound weight management program is under development for those who will be eligible for weight loss injections across York. Until this is in place, Elvington Medical Practice will not be able to prescribe weight loss injections. We will provide an update from the ICB as soon as possible, please follow the below link for the latest communication and information for patients.
The NHS provides a wide range of advice and tools to support healthy weight loss. We understand that many people are looking for support in managing their weight and so we’re working hard to improve access to services and new treatments for people living with obesity.

Important Patient Update:
Mounjaro (tirzepatide) for Weight Management
Following NHS England's recent announcement, GPs will be able to prescribe Mounjaro (tirzepatide) for weight management from 29th June 2025.
We are pleased to inform our patients that we will be offering this treatment to those who meet the NHS-defined eligibility criteria, known as Cohort 1.
The cohorting approach is a phased rollout designed by NHS England to prioritise patients with the greatest clinical need, ensuring that those at highest risk from obesity-related health conditions receive access to treatment first. This approach will be used for the initial 3 years of implementation, from 2025 – 2028
What is Cohort 1?
Cohort 1 includes patients who:
· Have a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 40 or more (adjusted for ethnicity*) and
· Are diagnosed with at least four of the following five weight-related health conditions:
o Type 2 diabetes mellitus
o High blood pressure (hypertension)
o Heart disease
o Obstructive sleep apnoea
o Abnormal blood fats (dyslipidaemia)
For Patients Not in Cohort 1
If you do not meet the criteria for Cohort 1, we kindly ask that you refrain from contacting the surgery to request Mounjaro. We are currently unable to prescribe this treatment outside of the NHS-defined eligibility criteria.
For Eligible Patients
If you are eligible for Mounjaro, please contact the surgery if you wish to express interest and arrange a consultation to discuss next steps. Please bear with us as we ensure our staff are appropriately trained and establish protocols to allow for safe prescribing and timely follow-up care.
We appreciate your patience and understanding as we implement this important new service.
Thank you, Elvington Medical Practice
