In celebration of Emancipation Day, the National AIDS Programme Secretariat hosted a team bonding cookout featuring African-inspired cuisine. Staff members were divided into teams and challenged to prepare a variety of traditional African dishes, which were all cooked onsite at the Secretariat.

The activity served as both a culinary showcase and an educational opportunity. Each team presented their dish to the judges, sharing the history behind the meal and explaining its ingredients and cultural significance. The event also included a brief reflection on the historical importance of Emancipation Day and its enduring relevance.

Following the presentations, the judges sampled each dish and selected a winner based on taste, presentation, and storytelling.

The event was a resounding success, fostering camaraderie, cultural appreciation, and team spirit in a fun and engaging way.

Special thanks to our judges and the team NAPS for making this event at success.

Dr. Wendy stated that “At PANCAP, we believe that no single health issue exists in isolation. Hepatitis, like HIV and other STIs, is part of a broader fabric of sexual and reproductive health, of human rights, and of equity. That’s why we remain committed to supporting member states in developing integrated responses—where knowledge flows, systems connect, and people come first”.

"Too many people are living with hepatitis and don't even know it. Let's change that-get tested and spread the word."

Dr. Jagnarine reflected on the importance of breaking down the barriers of stigma, ignorance, and systemic gaps that stand in the way of hepatitis prevention, testing, treatment, and elimination.

liver won’t always warn you, that test will.
