International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women

International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women

Today, Desert Flower Guyana stands in solidarity with women and girls across the world as we reaffirm our commitment to ending all forms of gender-based violence.

Violence against women is a violation of human rights, dignity, and equality. It affects families, communities, and entire societies. And yet, far too many women and girls continue to face abuse, discrimination, and silence.

On this important day, we call on individuals, families, leaders, and communities to join us in taking action. Change begins with awareness, but it grows through courage, accountability, and collective responsibility.

Mindfulness & Presence Tip for the day!

Five-Palm Breathing Technique

When you’re feeling stressed, overwhelmed, or anxious, the Five-Palm Breathing Technique is a simple way to bring your mind and body back to calm.

Just spread out your hand like a star and trace each finger while breathing slowly:
1. Inhale as you move up one side of a finger
2.Exhale as you move down the other side

Five gentle breaths that help slow your heartbeat, relax your muscles, and clear your mind.

It’s quick, quiet, and you can do it anywhere.
Your breath is your superpower. Find your calm, one finger at a time.

World Children’s Day 💙🌍

Today, on World Children’s Day, we celebrate the strength, creativity, and limitless potential of every child. It is also a powerful reminder that every child deserves to grow up in a world where their mental health is protected, nurtured, and prioritised.

Children thrive when they feel safe, heard, and supported. Their emotions are real, their struggles matter, and their wellbeing shapes the adults they will one day become. Let us work together to create environments at home, in schools, and in our communities where children feel loved, respected, and empowered to express themselves without fear or judgement.

On this day, we commit to:
1.Listening deeply to children’s voices
2.Providing safe spaces for them to share feelings
3.Promoting kindness, inclusion, and emotional resilience
4.Advocating for programs and policies that support child mental health

Every child deserves a future filled with hope, opportunity, and wellbeing.
Let’s continue to champion their mental health today and every day.

Mindfulness & Presence Tip for the day!

Feeling overwhelmed? Try this simple practice: The 5-4-3-2-1 Grounding Technique.

The 5-4-3-2-1 grounding technique is a simple but powerful way to calm your mind and body during moments of stress or anxiety.

It helps bring you back to the present by engaging your senses.

Take a slow breath and gently notice:

5 things you can see
4 things you can touch
3 things you can hear
2 things you can smell
1 thing you can taste

Happy International Men’s Day!

Today, we celebrate the strength, compassion, and contributions of men in our families, communities, and workplaces. But we also take this moment to shine a light on something deeply important men’s mental health and wellbeing.

Too often, men feel pressured to stay silent, stay strong, and carry their burdens alone. This International Men’s Day, we want to remind every man that it’s okay to talk, okay to seek help, and okay to put your mental wellbeing first.

Real strength is found in honesty, vulnerability, and taking care of your mind.
To the men who are learning to rest, to heal, to speak up, and to grow. We see you, we honour you, and we support you.

Your mental health matters. Your wellbeing matters. You matter.

Happy International Men’s Day!
