CHINA MEDICAL TEAM
The year of 2023 marks the 60th anniversary of the Chinesemedical team abroad and the 30th anniversary of Chinesemedical team to Guyana.In July 1993,Jiangsu Province ofChina dispatched the first medical team to Guyana,following amemorandum of cooperation signed between the two countries.This marked the beginning of the first collaborative healthcareproject between China and a South American country. To date,China has sent 18 batches of medical experts,totaling 263persons to work in Guyana.They have treated more than 1,300,000patients,including over 30,000 severe cases.Meanwhile,more than 70,000 operations have been conducted by China medicalteams. The 20th China Medical Team consists of 16 members fromdepartments of General Surgery,Nephrology,Orthopedics,Burnand Plastic Surgery,Obstetrics and Gynecology,Pediatrics,Pathology,Acupuncture,Ophthalmology,Radiology,andAnesthesiology.They are dedicating themselves to the clinicalwork in Georgetown Public Hospital and Linden Hospital.

HUNDREDS of Guyanese patients suffering from chronic pain and complex medical conditions, found relief in 2025 as they received acupuncture treatment from the 21st China Medical Team.

The Chinese medical team continues to make remarkable strides in enhancing healthcare services at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), offering Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) acupuncture treatments.

On December 16, 2025, the Chinese Association of Guyana, along with friends from the Chinese Embassy in Guyana and CHINA Medical Team for Guyana visited the Joshua House Children Center to spread some holiday joy. It was a pleasure to interact with the children while we eat ice cream and snacks together.
