Lifeline was primarily funded by United States Agency for International Development (USAID). Our Motto is “We Keep People The Heart of the Matter” and our Mission is “Working towards reducing the psycho-social impact of HIV for persons living with or affected by AIDS through education, counseling, care and support, training and networking with the public and private sector organizations with aims
and objectives that complements Lifeline.”
The genesis of Lifeline was counselling for persons living with and affected by HIV. However, over the years our services have increased and broadened to meet the changing needs of our Clients. In 2004, Lifeline was funded to implement Voluntary Counselling and Testing (VCT) and Orphaned and Vulnerable Children (OVC) programmes and in 2006 we embarked on providing Home Based Care, which has since broadened to Community Home and Palliative Care (CHPC). Lifeline has over the years provided services such as Extra Tuition Classes, Literacy Classes, Youth Club, Pre and Post Counselling, HIV Rapid Testing, Hotline Counselling, Home Based Care Services, Referrals, School Packages for OVC, Food Hampers for OVC, Hot Meals, Day Care, Field Visits to Homes, Hygiene Counselling and Hampers, Skills Training for Persons Living With or Affected by HIV (PLHIV) and OVC, Links to Small Businesses, Peer Education, Peer Education with Commercial S*x Workers, MSMs, Youth, Condom Distribution, Mentorship Training, Mentoring OVC and Parenting, Support Group and Counselling Sessions for PLHIV on topics including but not limited to; positive living, dealing with stigma, domestic violence, stress management, nutrition and good hygiene to adherence, risk reduction planning, preventing opportunistic infections, preventing new HIV infections and family planning and dual protection. Lifeline currently provides optimum services in communities in Georgetown and its environs where people are free from the fear of HIV-related stigma and discrimination and people living with or vulnerable to HIV infection are supported to become self reliant in a non-discriminatory, safe and comfortable physical and emotional environment. The thrust of our Care and Support OVC programme is capacity building and empowerment of parents and caregivers of OVC through parenting training and capacity building workshops to ensure that they provide optimal care to OVC; increased access to education including extra tuition, literacy classes, and life skills development through Lifeline’s vibrant youth club and day care facilities. Our approach ensures that children in our care receive optimal care and opportunities to improve their quality of life and reduce their vulnerability to disease and poverty whilst our Care and Support CPHC Model provides optimal care to people living with HIV through capacity building of staff and clients to ensure optimal care including adherence by parents; life skills development and as well as improving the quality of care for PLHIV.
