Interesting study on the links between diet and depression: A randomized controlled trial finds dietary intervention with healthy whole foods for 12 weeks improves clinical depression better than social support intervention. 32% of patients went into remission after the dietary changes.

With Women’s International Day coming up on 8th March, it made me pause and reflect on the significant role women have played in my life. The word ‘sisterhood’ came to mind and what it represents and means to me -  the coming together of women from all walks of life drawn together with the a...

Merry Christmas everyone! This made me smile. So many will be waiting the arrival of Santa but according to The Royal College of GPs in the Uk Santa is not the role model of health - Professor Helen Stokes-Lampard has suggested hat he is likely to be sufering from binge drinking, work-related stress, obesity and sleep deprivation -all of which can lead to debilitating health problems! He may even have contracted Lyme disease from spending too much time with his reindeer! "All of us do our bit to add to his obseity by leaving mince pies, cookies, milk or alcohol". She suggests he could shed pounds by running between house! "Although he sets a brilliant example of good behaviour and teaches the importance of giving rather than receiving, he could probably do more to encourage helathy lifestyles".. So, perhaps we can give him a helping hand by leaving him a mandarin or apple this year to help him on his way or an extra carrot he can share with the reindeer ! A good opportunity to teach our children the benefits of healthy living too! Have a great and healthy one from us all at Health Nation! And let's help Santa get fitter and healthier too! We want him around for 2018 after all !

"There is nothing so urgent as sitting still" Pico Iyer

Take some time out to "just be" this Christmas holiday if you can. If you have 15 minutes explore this video which gives you some practical tips to completley switch off.

Why is this important? Chronic stress can block bloodflow to the brain which can affect our ability to think and reason - not the best way state to be in to deal with overexcited kids or the mother-in-law on Christmas Day (mine excepted of course - sorry Gill!).

So no devices, radio or TV. Try it and see and find some peace and serenity this Christmas.

The place that travel writer Pico Iyer would most like to go? Nowhere. In a counterintuitive and lyrical meditation, Iyer takes a look at the incredible insight that comes with taking time for stillness. In our world of constant movement and distraction, he teases out strategies we all can use to ta...
