Today is 24th of December and tomorrow is the 25th of December. For some people it’s a Christmas holiday time, if that’s who you are. For other people it’s a time of quiet rest away from the maddening crowd. Some people focus on the holiness of Christmas and the nativity. Other people feel extra lonely at Christmas and miss loved ones who are gone. A lot of people wish Christmas to be over so that their normal can return. Some people will never have that normal again. There are other people who just don’t get the Christmas and never have. And groups of people who don’t fit into any of those categories and that is perfectly alright. Whatever your status is this 24th and 25th of December, be good to yourself, be patient and kind, you are important as a person and you are valued.

A GRATITUDE PRACTICE

Notice: Scan your recent memories and identify something that’s happened in the last twenty-four hours that you’re pleased about. It doesn’t have to be anything big, just something that makes you think, “I’m glad that happened.”

Savour: Close your eyes and imagine that you are experiencing that moment again. Notice colours, tastes, sounds, smells, and the sensations in your body. Notice also how you feel in yourself.

Give thanks: Who or what helped this moment to happen? Was anyone (or anything) else involved? If so, think of them and imagine expressing your thanks.

Prayer is a meditative practice and a feature of every faith. In prayer we are asking for strength or hope to overcome difficulties. Who we are ultimately asking for solace, support and strength from, is our own inner being. Prayer is a pilgrimage towards self. We may believe we’re asking a source outside of self but that action is an inner calling.

The image of been pushed to your knees symbolizes times of adversity and struggle. We’ve all been there. The only thing about been brought to your knees is that the only way from there is up.

Sometimes, that place is our catalyst for change. An opportunity to rebuild ourself and address areas of our life that we’d avoided or diverted. We grow in therapy to become the person we always knew we were but were afraid to become.

Therapy is part of the process of coming home to self. It cannot be bypassed. Choosing the right therapist for you is essential for the process to be effective. Therapy is not hard, it’s freeing. It is a journey of deep inner awareness that guides us home to self. Don’t struggle alone. 💜
