The HSE are reminding everyone about the huge increase in respiratory illness and flu in the community currently. We are seeing the highest number of very sick patients in many years. In conjunction with the HSE our practice will be holding some late evening respiratory clinics (1 or 2 evenings per week) starting on Monday evening up to 6pm. Please phone the surgery to make appointments as normal.
The aim of these clinics is to try reduce the pressure on Caredoc and the hospitals. Please note that these clinics are not for routine consultations.

FLU VACCINE SEASON
It's that time of the year again when we need to protect ourselves against influenza. This is especially important for people at risk because of age (Over 60) and people who have medical conditions like Diabetes, Heart , kidney and liver disease, Asthma and COPD, people who are immunosuppressed etc. It is also advised for people who care for , or are household contacts of, elderly relatives or people with major medical conditions. SMS Messages IMPORTANT

ComReg who supervise communications nationally are working to deter SMS scams. All businesses who send SMS were asked to register our Sender IDs so that they would show as legitimate. The new system is starting today. However there is a problem nationally and messages from legitimate businesses are being marked as "likely scam". This is a Com Reg issue andthey are working to solve it. If you get a text message regarding your expected appointment tomorrow it is genuine.
Hopefully the problem will be solved later today.

As you aware we are part of the Centric Health group of GPs which has over 75 GP practices around Ireland. We are currently updating our website and will be adding features to it over the next month or so. We will have a facility to order your prescription online and also to book appointments for smear tests, blood tests, childhood immunisations etc. We hope that, in time that you will be able to book GP appointments also but that is further down the line. OVER 70 FREE GP VISIT CARD
Every permanent Irish resident over the age of 70 with a valid PPSN number is entitled to a free GP Visit card. This is not means tested and regardless of their income. We inform our patients when they reach that significant birthday of their entitlement and assist their application where necessary.
However we are aware that some people are not aware of this entitlement. Perhaps you can check with elderly friends and relatives to ensure that they avail of this GP Visit card. Application is very simple and they just need their PPSN and basic details to register with their own GP.

Because of the red weather alert for tomorrow Friday 24th our surgery will be CLOSED in the morning and will not open until 2pm tomorrow afternoon, when we will only have a reduced service available. Naturally this will depend on the status of the storm and availability of electricity supply. We are sure that people understand the importance of safety for all staff.
In case of a medical emergency please call 999/112. we hope to be available to answer the phones from 2pm.

There has been a very large increase in the number of patients who have ended up in hospital with severe influenza infection. We are holding a catch up flu vaccine clinic on Wednesday at 12.15pm and 3 pm for patients who wish to receive it. Please send a message here or phone 059/9132450 to book an appointment.

Flu virus increase
HSE are reporting a significant increase in flu vaccine cases in the past week. Levels are currently at 3 times the level of the same week in 2023. Levels in UK are rising significantly over the past week. We advise that all patients over 60 should avail of the free flu vaccine and that patients with medical conditions between 18 and 60 should also get the vaccine.
Children aged 2 -18 can get a free nasal vaccine and are advised to receive it also. Please send a message to us online here or at info@dolmenmedical.ie. You can also phone 059/9132450 and we will facilitate a suitable time for you.

We are holding a flu vaccine clinic for children aged 2 - 17 tomorrow from 10.30am to 12pm in our practice in Shamrock Plaza. We have sent links to all patients but in case you did not receive one i have attached it below. We have a small number of vaccines left so first come first served. You must book your child online to receive the vaccine.
We will have more vaccines in the practice later next week and patients can phone us and book their children in some afternoon.
