Physical and Mental health are often mistaken as being separate from each other. When actually maintaining your physical health has a knock-on effect on your mental health.

Physical activity can improve your mental health.

This doesn’t necessarily mean high levels of intense sports or heavy gym sessions. It simply means meeting your daily recommended levels of physical activity.

World Health Organization (WHO) recommended levels of physical activity:

β€’ People 18–64 doing at least 150 minutes of moderately intense aerobic physical activity per week.

β€’ 75 minutes of vigorously intense aerobic activity per week.

β€’ A combination of moderate and vigorous-intensity activity.

That doesn’t seem very difficult when we take into account how many hours in a week we are inactive. Compared with those who do not meet recommended activity levels, people who do, are more likely to report experiencing positive mental moments and are better able to deal with stressful scenarios.

As times continue to be challenging during isolation, try to engage in some form of physical activity, as you not only look after your physical health but your mental health too!
